so we kind of hit the big time ……….

Its been such a long time since my last blog, hope I can remember how to Blog. So i sign in to my blog, and i see that word press has changed, it looks a lot easier,

Maybe I can get back to blogging, I guess only time will tell, any how, things are good in the oldmanleslie house, I still haven’t found better coffee any where than here IMAG0783

I have tried to cut down on the junk food, so no more bad service from KFC or subway  I guess that’s one way to ensure you don’t get bad service , to stop using something

Still Proud of my family and the way they make me smile ,Still working for the same company   and still drumming withsamba guy www.celebrationsamba.co.uk/ and looking  forward to a Busy  summer……

Oh by the way , did i mention that  This  Sunday coming, Worthings Samba Band  are playing  and leading a procession into the Amex Stadium In Brightonamex-stadium-1 (1). to and audience  of 10000+ people. All out to support something in support of a new bishop. you can find details  from #festival50 on the usual channels .

So why do i choose to blog this . Simply for the reason that if you see something that you think looks good, try it , do it because you enjoy it , and do it to the best ofestival-50-landscape-finalf your ability …. I had no idea that when i heard a  little samba band at my local carnival  2 + years ago that i would one day be playing with them  to 10000+ people , least of all looking forward to it

Liebster award

“Oh Er Missus”, here I am, a newish blogger and I get nominated for an award, and I’m so pleased….I think

I wasn’t  sure of how these things work, how to compete with all the SAHM’s out there ,what my blog would benefit from, or even  the true meaning of Liebster so I “googled that bit ”  and found out its “ somewhere between sweetheart, beloved person, darling dear, darling; beloved, liked very much; affectionate, loving, favorite, preferred above others; liked or loved above others

For the rest of it , I guess it works by e@word of mouth commonly referred to as “PLS RT ” and that’s the ” award ”

I realize that  SAHM’s have more time than me so I can’t compete, and “ it doesn’t matter “ as if it’s not fun I don’t do it ( blog that is )

All of which are pretty positive, so if that’s what Abi of muminahurry thinks then I must be doing something right. So thanks for the nomination (it means a lot)

The rules I have to comply with: liebster2

  • Credit  back to the blog that chose you , you in your post – Done
  • Answer the 10 questions they Posed  – Done
  • think hard to find 10 new questions for your choices – Done
  • And obviously nominate at least 10 new bloggers– Done
  • Comment on this post when you´re done, so we can follow the trail– Done

So, here we go. Here are the questions that Abi posed me, with my answers:

  1. Favorite drink – Coffee, – that’s easy ( iced peach latte to be precise )
  2. First pet’s name – Honey Pie, not really mine, Mum & dads Labrador when I was a kid , so all the fun & no Vets bills
  3. Favorite movie trilogy –  so easy  this one before it had 1 2 & 3 added, original Star wars ( 4 5 & 6 ) but 7 looks good
  4. Your proudest moment/s –The birth of my children and Getting Wed
  5. UK holidays or foreign climes –foreign climes
  6. Favorite naughty treat – BBC Baguette ( Bacon Brie & Cranberry )
  7. Where do you run to when you need to escape – I don’t run, I stay and try to sort it out,
  8. If you could change anything about yourself what would it be – would lose weight I guess *
  9. Conversely what is your favorite thing about you – How I fit into my family
  10. Other than your partner and kids, –My mum & dad as they helped me become what I am today & they are proud of me

My nominees are:

  1. @osborne2029 of wordpress.com because it seems like a clean light-hearted Blog
  2. @labelsforlunch of fashionforlunch.net as it’s all the things I would like to wear ( see above *)
  3. The admin @pbloggersnet of pbloggers.co.uk I know this one’s a cheat , but without the support from this channel as a novice, I would have given up on the blogging, a true, Honest blog, doesn’t look to be in it for the glory  and really likes to help others , hosts forums. and to me seems to sum up what I would like my blog to be.

I have listed these 3 as influential to me for the reasons I mention. I would add just 1 more to the list

Tina  who  admins thesoupdragonsays  a lady  I knew before blogging, back in the days BI ( before Internet )  and although it’s a different style of blog, and lots of it is sponsored, it shows you what  a blog can do if it’s given time

I am still new to this so 10 nominees is a little hard, but I suppose  just because I like to read  what they blog, and I go back to them I could add these to the list. They don’t all ” word press “, some are Google+ and other channels.some may even have enough followers already, but that’s not why I follow them

twitter.com/CoolTownCrier   @cooltowncrier  who blogs On Twitter all that is going on in the local area

twitter.com/adursol   @adursol who have taken on planning a great local event and really show  how to embrace social media  for support and ” electronic word of mouth ”

twitter.com/HOBODataLoggers   @hobodataloggers a world-class manufacturer, special as it’s a global brand that you probably haven’t heard of. It pays all its taxes and puts ” a lot back in ”

www.tempcon.co.uk/   @tempconuk  I may be biased on this one, but a UK manufacturer, supplying globally. Been around a long time (30+ years ) so must be doing something right. and a good place to work

twitter.com/JudeandOllie    @JudeandOllie another lady I met in the real world in the early days of the internet . One of the best Blogs I  get  sent through , that I enjoy reading and having a chuckle.

Now I’ve done that Here are my questions for my nominees:

  1. What started you blogging and does it still drive you today?
  2. What really annoys you, things, events or people?
  3. Local British shop / manufacturer or Global Brand?
  4. Favorite Naughty treat (sorry to copy it, but what a great question)?
  5. Real world meet ups, or keep it online?
  6. Allow kids to play as we did, or wrap them in cotton wool?
  7. In 2014 what makes someone a “celebrity “?
  8. Old school, Politically Correct or somewhere between?
  9. More of it if it’s cheaper and will break, or less of it as a higher quality higher price product?
  10. The thing you look forward to most each & every  day?

what a great little place, in a lovely little village -” jerichos”

On a late summers afternoon, when you are strolling through a large village , and you see the usual brands of Tesco, costa, boots, whsmith and a few others, you might be surprised to see a little independent shop  doing so well, …. well we found  Jerichos. What a great little place, not only selling sweets  that i hadn’t seen for ages, but selling some of the imported stuff that you just cant get in the UK . The village is rustington in west Sussex its a quaint place but im not sure if village does it justice for its size.

There is plenty of parking, plenty of shops , and most importantly plenty of places to look around..Any way back to Jerichos. Great selection to choose from . Prices not too bad  ( £1.00 for a can of cherry dr pepper )  which i  don’t think was too badIMAG0859 . Gave the boys the modern equivalent of  a few pennies they could spend, as I’m not one of those dads that takes kids to places then says they can’t have this or that . and let them go and choose the bits they wanted  .I’m not to  sure about the ” yoo hoo” but it sounded nice.

Sorry I cant give you pics of what the boys had, it’s all been scoffed ( I suppose it doesn’t hurt once in a while )

But one thing I did get which I have been looking for  for ages, is the  bag that has the descriptions of the jelly IMAG0860beans from Jelly Belly  so I can now  get started on the pot I got given earlier in the year that  had no flavours listed on them

Any way, like all good businesses there is a www for  jerichos   and of course , a face book and all the usual  tweet stuff, I just thought that in the spirit of having found somewhere nice , I would share with you , I have not been sponsored for this blog

So its the simple ideas that are often the best

On a recent great holiday to Dubai with the family, whilst sat on a beach, on the palm, in near 50C heat. i was  pleased to see that the Hotel  Give out free water and ice lollies to their guests during the day.  I guess it’s just one of those things that is a ” nice touch ” and   for this i say well done jumeriah.

The downside to a major hotel giving out bottles of water , all iced and cold in branded bags and nice for the guests is that there is a lot of Bottles left  that have to go to recycling.  So  Why should i choose  to blog about rubbish , well anyone that  knows me will know  of the company i work for  ” Tempcon” and through them i got to hear  about  the  WFAA. The link will tell you what they do , basically  my ” knowing of them ” has changed the way i think about waste

so lets cut through this, My  Idea was  to  simply condense  the bottles down before sending to recycling, there by optimising the space required, reducing the number of vehicles needed to move the bottles and  save fuel etc etc etc.

So My thanks go to the team  at the JUMEIRAH ZABEEIsaac LwakiL SARAY hotel  firstly  for giving me time with their managers to explain  the idea to them and for putting me in contact with   this man ( I wont name him  as it wouldn’t be fair  to him to directly), I’m sure that Jumeriah will do something good with Any money that they save as an international chain of hotels. As its part of their Green Globe  accreditation   . Also a big thank you for the things that the Hotel arranged for us as a gift.  My photo doesn’t do the suggestion any favours really but I hope you can see what was suggested .

It’s Just Nice to see that  a truly global brand will listen to a customer, will take feedback , and will also  act on it  quickly and effectively, I will be feeding this back to the managers  that I dealt with directly

Well done  Jumeriah

Ice Nominate ex 2

The Ice Bucket
Challenge

Get involved in the perfect summer fundraising challenge that’s sweeping across social media. #IceBucketChallenge a friend and raise money to help people affected by cancer.

How does it work?

It’s simple. Just challenge someone via Facebook or Twitter to have a bucket of ice-cold water poured over their head in exchange for a text donation to Macmillan. Film it, share it, and then sit back and watch the nomination process take over. Take a peek at these videos to get an idea.

Sounds brilliant. What do I need?

  • A bucket
  • Ice
  • A smartphone
  • A towel
  • A change of clothes (highly recommended)
  • Immense bravery

Right. Got all that. What do I do now?

  1. 1. Fill the bucket with iced water
  2. 2. Pour it on your head
  3. 3. Film this on your smartphone
  4. 4. Post the video to Facebook / Twitter
  5. 5. Text to Donate £3 to Macmillan by sending ICE to 70550
  6. 6. Nominate up to three friends to do it next

Make sure you include this all important line when posting on social media:

I nominate XXX to take part in the #IceBucketChallenge in the next 48 hours and text ICE to 70550 to give £3 to Macmillan. (*Wimp out and text FINE to 70550 to give £10 instead).

first one of the Holidays…in future i will take pictures

image

its the weekend, and its sunny, and its the school hols. so why not. suddenly realising that KFC portions are getting smaller  if you don’t ” go large” and they are candidates for the  ” nice enough tasting, but looks nothing like the picture ” 1st prize

I looked at the picture  of what i thought i was getting,  and realised  when my food came out , one main reason why Bloggers  take pictures of their food. What i got was nothing at all like the picture.

Over the summer holidays we are  going to be in a few different places so i guess we will get to see  if  its just a local thing to the Bognor Regis drive through  ” near halfords ” that should be avoided  if you are here on holidays

NO ONE PART OF MY FOOD LOOKED LIKE THE WWW SHOWS

Fish Finger Sarnies & a root beer float …….So this ones an important Blog for me, Where to spend the hard earned Pennies

Don’t worry, oldmanleslie isn’t about to go and get  all serious, well not overnight any way. For the first time in my blog, there is conflict ., ( shock horror )

I’m based in  west Sussex, and this time  of year, we are blessed with a lot of sunshine, so days out , at the shops, on the beach, an evening stroll along an almost deserted prom ,
and yes that really is our local prom and the sunsets are that good

and at the end of the prom you find

The Lobster pot.

There are many reasons to go here  on a sunny day in summer, or for a refreshing  autumn stroll. And i have blogged  about it before

One reason to go is the Amazing Fish Finger Sandwiches, that they do. I suppose i am ” not very wellinformedoldmanleslie” but i didn’t know you could get these…. so to find them on my doorstep was  a bit of a coup

Putting the Lobster-pot  aside for a moment, I was keen to  see what the good people at sparks yard had done to improve their offering  in Arundel. Now i know some bloggers only review freebies, well that’s not the way it works with “oldmanleslie”  its nice to get freebies of course, however  why should business  have to fork out for  opinions…..Any how  Back to the loft

Mrs Oldmanleslie and I Parked ” down by the river ” in Arundel, and had a nice stroll   along the banks of the river , up through  Arundel. avoiding the  multiple coach loads of students & visitors to the castle…. and there it was, clearly visible  from the end of Tarrant street

so now the facts, Easy access to the shop , although parking in Arundel needs looking at . easy  wheelchair access to all floors of the shop  and restaurant  via their own lift,  Always  clean inside.  loftWell refurbished  top floor restaurant that we tried to just pop into. we were soon asked if ” are you Chris ”  and shown to the reserved Table  by the window that they had ” reserved for us ”  I have to say Mrsoldmanleslie liked that ”  We were served well,  quickly but not  invasively . and  we were left to order our food. After a nice chat with what turned out to be one of the owners

” stop, Hammer time “

for the  first time as a blogger  i should have taken a picture of something i was about to consume , ( I didn’t )  so you will have to believe me that £2.50 for a drink  was the best value in a long time. Imported root beer that you can buy in the shop , used to make an ice cream float, with a curly straw, now that’s the taste of childhood .

A quick look down the menu for food, and there it was. The fish finger sandwich….. so apologies to Andrew and the team, I’m sure that everything else on the menu was fine, and maybe we will  be back soon to try it, however that’s a favourite with all us Leslie’s, so  there in lies the dilemma

Go for what you know, and now have a choice of venues that both serve excellent  food, or risk going off “Piste ” and getting something you don’t like ?

We are going to have to go back and find out i guess, it certainly wont be a hard choice and when a place is just that little bit too far away  to walk to, it makes it all the more special to be well looked after  by them.

So I can’t take credit for the images ( taken from the www)   and i cant  take credit for the effect on the waistline ( that’s  your responsibility
however Either way, if you are in west Sussex for holidays and looking . Just remember
On the beach in Felpham = The lobster-pot
Shopping and  touristy things in Arundel  = Sparks yard  / The loft
Either way ” the fish finger sandwiches are excellent,” and the root beer  just seals the decision  for me

Free coffee…..always good

image

And it tastes good…..usually does.

So if you are in sunny Bognor Regis…..forget Costa or maccy d….head for  “the London road coffee shop“….

And with a buy 6 get one free….even better

Just for the record….vanilla cappucino. Made from kimbo beans

Absolutely Lovely

…yum. With a bbc ( Bacon Brie & Cranberry ) sarnie to finish..

its all about the Sharing” especially when they are this good ” hotelchocolat” the summer fusions sleekster

So the purpose of a sponsored blog is to have some one send you a product, you fully evaluate it, and leave an honest opinion, I have to admit, I cant do that here today…..

Why ? you may ask. well as followers of my blog will know, it really is ” all about the sharing” and i firmly believe that if you are in this for any other reason, then you should have a re think..

So any way, I was asked to provide feedback on a new selection from the people at hotelchocolat

I was given a choice of what  was sent to me , and I went for  the  summer fusions sleeker. I knew i was to be sharing these out  at work , to get the most opinions, and therefore went for  what looked like the best selection

The Summer Fusions SleeksterNow at this point I would like to show you  lots of pictures of people enjoying choccy,  but I cant, I would like to tell you that some people said  that they were to rich in taste, but  they didn’t, so I cant , I would also like to tell you that I personally enjoyed  every one, But as it’s all about the sharing I cant. even do that

What I can say is everyone that had some  loved them, the comments were all good, from the MD  and right across the board.

The Hotelchocolate website where these lovely chocolates can be bought   describes them far better than i can as

“A collection of 28 chocolates to compliment your summer in the most delicious way. Packed with fresh, fruity flavours, indulgent caramels and nutty pralines, it’s the ultimate taste of summer! Perfect for warm afternoon picnics, sharing during the long restful evenings, or as a dinner party gift – if you can bear to part with it, of course.”

I would just say that although i was sent a box to review , and  there was no real way for me to return the product, overall, with the nice  packaging The Summer Fusions Sleekster in pastel colours, with the  attention to detail , including a card for me, and the brilliant way  they are presented in the box, although they are £24.00  for a box, this The Summer Fusions Sleekstershouldn’t be thought of as expensive,  just ”  reassuringly well  priced for quality  ”

My only regret  is that  just as when i was a small ” oldmanleslie” and I finished the last choccy on the layer, i wished there had been another layer underneath , And as we dont have long boozy afternoons at work, i cant  say how good these would be after a long BBQ session, i can only imagine

Thanks to the nice people at Hotelchocolate ,

Pirates fighting on Bognor Regis seafront Pirates fighting on Bognor Regis seafront

Today, our lovely town held a summer carnival based on a Pirate theme and we were all for a wonderful surprise when Jack Sparrow himself landed (or more like it, was hoisted) from his modern day Black Pearl – read speed boat – to the delight of all, big and small.

Spirit FM on stage Spirit FM on stage

The event started at 11.45 am, courtesy of Spirit FM West Sussex, outside the Regis Centre and Alexandra Theatre, and we were kindly advised to look out at sea for the momentous event. We obediently followed and were rewarded with the arrival of the most famous (should that be infamous?) pirate in the history of film making.

So all the good plans to blog a few things that have happened over the last few days, and things that the oldmanleslie clan are looking forward to ….go right out of the window when I realise, I love the tunes, and whilst they don’t sound as good, And I have it on vinyl some where …..you tube is great for memories and instant access

happy ” dancing like a loon “

A great resource for Historic Pictures…..

Found on the back of the HUKD  site ,
and  claiming to be free to download & print. so  you can use them  if you need to  a whole load of classic posters from way back when

Classic Images that you may have forgotten about, Films, brands, movies, places, just a whole bank of good old memories

the website is here

I hope you find something that you like on here, May be for a history project, school homework, art project,or for whatever you need one for

My personal favourite is the creature from the black lagoon, i guess that says more about me than the site

So this one makes me sad….

as reported on www.bbc.co.uk/news  I think this  is a wrong choice by the BBC, Charts should be based on sales, where s  the fun in clinically clicking a button for your music, maybe I’m too ” old ” Oldmanleslie.

it was fun buying vinyl, it felt good. it still sounds better and it looks good ( only my opinion)

but here’s the rational argument. For example, one of my old faves. I have this  behind me on a cd, and somewhere on an old vinyl. bought in shops, so I assume I have paid my fees to the artist. And therefore I can listen to it on some service for free.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBUT0cxtHlgBastille

but if all I pay is to stream the track and listen when I want, I don’t own a copy out right. so if this is the thin end of the wedge, will there one day only be streamed music available ..

rant over , let me know what you though of the old classic

Such an Inspiration ……………………

Just a bit of catching up on the Blog to do this morning, so  a few things that have been  on my mind this week, Shall i clog up people’s emails with individual Blogs, or just drop it all into one Blog ?

So here it comes, a mixed up Blog  :

Firstly and most important to me , its  only a month  until me and my Boys go out for our annual  trip to good wood for a bit of a skate .  this year  we have been offered  help by  quite a few  people , all skating, Scooting  & wheeling in support of  littlehamptonshopmobility.co.uk.  we will be trying to live Blog  on the day , but I’m not promising , as it’s all about the Skating for me for one day  only.   And also that for the first time in a long time, there are 3 generations of ” oldmanleslie” including the proper one out for the day, doing good things, and having  fun

Like every thing else, there is of course a button  to if you want to support us  financially. Just click-through here

Second thing for the week.

We  all think that our dad is the best  in the world, they are always special to us for many reasons. Just because  “it’s all about the Sharing ” i am going to share with you  a little secret, My Dad IS the greatest in the world, I have absolutely  no doubt about that, But I’m pretty sure that i can tell you  who the Number 02 best  dad is as well,  This dad is a TRUE  inspiration , and if you dig around a little on the web  you will see why

Then , during the week i had a bit of a downer ,Nothing too serious , i just heard on local TV news about  thegooddeeddiary. this is a positive thing  that a guy in the UK  is doing and it is to be praised, the downer was the thought that followed, ” isn’t it a shame that this isn’t the ” norm ” any more ”  and wouldn’t it be good to get back to it . Possibly Luke Can Keep it going and inspire others around him. Good deeds don’t have to cost money, we can all do them , just even 1 a day

But i ended the week on a positive, and it wasn’t  a sneaky latte, or  a free day out, it wasn’t  even something that i had been sent from a  PR /company to review. it was because i went  last weekend  in the pouring rain to see  the boys and girls at malpass meats. I will send them a link  to  the blog, however i just thought it was worth  a mention that  the steak we got was  Mouth watering” cooked of course by Mrs Oldmanleslie” and  over the last 20 years of  buying from them  i have always had great  meat,  cracking service . you might in fact call it ” legendary ”

so its time to let the world know ( or at least the little bit of it that see’s my blog )

today , i am back again volunteering at  ” the shop ” and NOW  its just about 2 weeks to go untill our BIG fund raiser

“the shop ” being  Littlehampton Shop Mobility , I get here when i can to help out as  i think its good to try to do what you can , when you can, It’s not all about the Money, or the freebies. But as always ” its all about the sharing ”

Today  we have what looks like the first hint of a summer’s day  and i hope that we are busy , cos if we are that means that people  that have Mobility issues are  using us to get themselves out and about to enjoy the sun.

Also here preparing for  the South Coast roll, where this year a team of ” mad fools ”  will be trying to propel themselves on skates, skateboards, in wheel chairs  and anything else they can find that isn’t motorized or pedaled , around good wood motor circuit  in Chichester ( West Sussex UK)

So why do i want to tell you this, well here comes the punchline……

We are doing it all in aid of the shop to raise funds to buy vital resources to help the local community. So I hope you will tell all your friends about  us, and maybe find it possible to support us

There will be pictures from this years event posted of course, but here are  some of our star skaters & Imageboarders from last years  attempt  when we raised in excess of £500  Image

There is a Facebook page for our efforts  and we will update as we get closer to the event

Image

Thanks for having a look and i hope you can see why we wanted to share this with you , I’m proud of my sons that are both doing their bit, just because they can, I’m grateful to  those with ” mobility issues ) family and friends. and its amazing to see that people will still come out and give up their time to support  a great cause

Hotel Chocolate – Easter Pick Me Up

The yellow topped eggs, were  lovely, Rich  gooey liquid centres that  tasted Yummy
And as for  the strawberry chocolates, they were simply out of this world.
I cant say that it was nice to  have 1 special chocolate with a cup of coffee or tea,Or that the selection lasted very long, as it didn’t. But all of the people who had them liked them.
Full of uplifting Easter goodies and seasonal specialities to nibble and even share!
Well, I did the sharing, everyone liked them, thanks to the good people at Hotel Chocolate for sending them to me
If you want to buy them, then i would say they are worth every penny, and they can be bought for  £13.00 ( UK )
I’m just sorry I didn’t take my own pictures, but before I knew it , all that was left was wrappers & Smiling  chocolate  gorged faces

2 good things happened today

So following on from my Horrible day yesterday £40.00 to travel 100 miles on public transport in horrible cramped conditions, I was out there again today in the big wide world, ironically about the same mileage, but under my own steam. I actually got 48 MPG from the car and that was mostly Town  driving , so in direct cost £13.00 of fuel covered it . and I could talk  to people ( hands free of course , as it came as standard )  without the fear of someone in the carriage listening to me  so the Difference was I enjoyed every single mile , which put me in a better frame of mind for each meeting….. this must be what they term ” advancement through technology

My car, My radio , and one of my favourites of ALL time played. enjoyed it so much, had to come home, you tube it and find 9.00 minutes plus of sheer indulgence

all in all , I had a great day so if there is ” karma” I Hope you have had a great day too

Enjoy the tune,

Subway Store – Bognor Regis NOT GOOD – ( in my opinion)

so there we were, out in town this morning , we had the  smallest ” oldmanleslie” with us . and  when we asked him what he fancied for lunch, as a bit of a treat…. there we were a few minutes later  we were in subway.  Subway - Eat FreshObviously , in her hand bag that has the contents of the world in its corners Mrs oldmanleslie  had a voucher so  this made it a little  easier.

Thanks to the guy that  gave me another voucher as we were going in , didn’t get his name, didn’t know him  but a random act of kindness, so thanks.

it turns out  that a voucher that you think says buy one  drink  and a sub, and get a free sub , has so many conditions on it, and so many restrictions on how it can be used, that it really isn’t worth the hassle. But we paid the bill any way.

We asked for a glass of tap  water for my son , apparently  Subway now charge ( not for the water, For the cup  £1.19 UK ) which is coincidentally what they charge for a cold drink.

But it took a very rude ( in my opinion ) member of staff to tell me this.

The part that  most surprised me though , was when i went back to actually pay for a bottle of water, i joined the queue. i was told to go straight to the front  to the till, I’m thinking this would have annoyed  all the others in the queue so i declined and waited.

I got the bottled drink from the  fridge as instructed and my change was brought over to me ( NO RECEIPT ) so i don’t know if the  transaction went through the till

and of course after all this my subs were cold ( i had  hot steak and cheese ) but no one seemed  too worried

so all in all , Poor service, misleading Marketing and un helpful staff

Shame really as i used to like the occasional Subway. and  in other stores the service has been good , this relates only to this store

My advice  if  you are in Bognor  for the day , shopping , staying at butlins , or just down for the day  and fancy a sandwich , Avoid this Subway . Head about 150 Yards up the road to

a place that i have used for many years

“Build” Anything you can for Free with Lego,

 www.buildwithchrome.com/

What a brilliant one  this is, 2 of the biggest brands on the planet teaming  up to give kids something to do for free, I guess the idea is that you design it, then go to the nearest Lego store   and buy the bricks you need to build it ” real world”

Lego and Google  have teamed up

And the result is www.buildwithchrome.com/

A brilliant interactive platform  where you can even see if some one near you has built  something, I can see that there is a cost involved until you try to buy  the Lego

Get kids thinking about spaceships, aliens , rockets and the like …..

What a great thing to inspire kids imaginations

NASA’s OSIRIS-REx mission and The Planetary Society invite you to submit your name for a round-trip ride to asteroid Bennu. Your name will hitch a ride to the asteroid, spend 500 days there, and return in the Sample Return Capsule to Earth in 2023.

Plus your name will be on the spacecraft, which will remain in space long after returning the sample return capsule to Earth.

Nothing to lose and it’s an awesome thing to do!

You can also print off a Certificate to show your kids

Something Good, Sustainable and low-cost

What a refreshingly good Story to see.

Simon Dale is a family man in Wales,

His interest in self-sustainability and an ecological awareness led him to dig out and build his own home—one of the loveliest, warmest, most inviting dwellings you could ever imagine. And it cost him only £3,000, about $4,700 American dollars!

Can you imagine a more charming entrance than this?Man Builds Fairy Tale Home for His Family – Total Cost £3,000 - Hobbit Home

Simon gives two reasons for building the home. The first elegant one, from his website, is: “It’s fun. Living your own life, in your own way is rewarding. Following our dreams keeps our souls alive.” His second reason is a plea for sustainability, in which he states that “our supplies are dwindling and our planet is in ecological catastrophe”. You can read the full and passionate statement here. Simon is also a photographer, and as you can see throughout this article, a talented one. A beautiful view in another home that Simon is helping build for someone else. (Originally, this was mistakenly identified as a photo of the home he and his family are living in.) The tools are fairly simple.Man Builds Fairy Tale Home for His Family – Total Cost £3,000 - Hobbit Home Interior The main concession to modernity was a chainsaw, which he used to cut down about 30 small trees. No old growth forest fell to his family’s needs. He focused on tools that used his own energy, like shovel, chisel, and hammer. Yet it took him only four months to produce this lovely home. The home is constructed from wood, stone, straw, and has a sod roof. It’s heated with a wood fireplace and has a solar panel for power. Most materials were scavenged and refurbished appliances. The effect, though, isn’t of a run-down get-by-with-second-best . It’s creative, artistic, elegant, and cozy. It is, in fact, magical. Most amazingly, the home didn’t require years of training or experience. Simon had none. He’s not an architect. He’s not an engineer. He’s not a carpenter. He started from scratch in every sense. He told the Daily Mail: “Being your own have-a-go architect is a lot of fun and allows you to create and enjoy something which is part of yourself and the land rather than, at worst, a mass-produced box designed for maximum profit and the convenience of the construction industry.” Building from natural materials does away with producers’ profits and the cocktail of carcinogenic poisons that fill most modern buildings. He was fortunate in obtaining the land for his home. The plot, a bit of a large piece, was given to him in exchange for its caretaking. Simon Dale, his wife Jasmine Saville, and their two children in front of their completed home just 4 months after starting it! This and all photos on this page are by Simon Dale (http://simondale.net). The attention to making the home eco-friendly extends to a compost toilet, the use of straw over a plastic layer for insulation, and a refrigerator that’s cooled with air that flows from under the home’s foundation. Cement is a high carbon emitter, so the interior walls are finished with lime plaster instead of cement plaster. Simon is now involved in building another home for the Lammas Project, an organization dedicated to low-impact building. Focus is not only on the homes themselves, but also on planting trees and gardens, and on low impact living in general. Here’s how he sums up his view on his home and the Lammas Project: This building is one part of a low-impact or permaculture approach to life. This sort of life is about living in harmony with both the natural world and ourselves, doing things simply and using appropriate levels of technology. These sort of low-cost, natural buildings have a place not only in their own sustainability, but also in their potential to provide affordable housing which allows people access to land and the opportunity to lead more simple, sustainable lives. I cannot imagine a home more lovely, appealing, and livable than this one. This could be and should be the wave of the future in home building. This should not be allowed to happen, it’s the pupils that suffer

I don’t know where you stand on the whole   State / Private / Academy  debate. im sure there are plus points  for each. This is an Academy local to  me and it seems that from the information in the article that as a result of a head master leaving his post, the kids at this place will  undoubtedly suffer  with the disruption that this will cause.Steve Jewell with pupils at the Littlehampton Academy

Why can this be allowed to happen, Aren’t the high school years  tough enough on children

Any how, that’s my rant over for the day

Rockface Shave Butter….What a great claim on the www

So those that know me and have  read my blogs will get a little of a feel for the sort of ” average Jo ” that i am. A forty something  Fella, with a great family  and all  good things around me..Rock Face Shave butter. Great both for shaving and as a moisturiser.

Generally optimistic and always willing to share my thoughts with others. So when i was asked to  review  Rockface Shave Butter, I thought ” why Not ”  I read their www  and thought that their write up sounded Amazing, so i was already  to be Scathing of the product as i have generally used Gillette  products to keep my chin ” un bearded ” …

I have now used this  Rockface shave butter 3 days on the bounce,  which is unusual as i never normally  shave at weekends, all i can say is that my chin has never felt smoother  after a shave, the Idea  of rubbing in the butter when finished and Moisture is brilliant. Although  i  haven’t previously moisturised. and  the smell isn’t bad either .

This product can be bought from the website  at £4.99 a tube, In my opinion its worth every penny of that.

Sure, at the end of the day it’s a gent grooming product, it’s not going to bring about world peace, or set the world on Fire, But for me , its a revolutionary  product that i wasn’t aware of  and i will definitely look out for in the shops

29/12/2013

Just to add that I have now used my samples of Rockface shave butter and apart from me obviously using too much per shave, This stuff is really good to use,  I am not sure about the whole” Moisturise thing ” but my chin  feels good to me

Apparently It’s not just me that  thinks so …http://dadbloguk.com/review-rock-face-shave-butter/

What a brilliant weekend ….so far

And then it was Saturday,  a trip up to Crawley to  an event called the Crawley Mela ( what a cultural eye opener that was for me ) thanks to Jan & Ivan  ( another link i will have to send …)

Home in time for number 01 son to go skating without me, not a problem as im sure i inhibit him. he is just too good to say so

A lay in this morning, a leisurely day  of not  doing much at all really

My good lady  made a lovely tea tonight.

And a few minutes blogging  before i go out into the garden

Hope your weekends have been as enjoyable as mine , and if you  have kids off school on long holidays , don’t forget http://www.free-events.co.uk/

Have a great week

A spot of advice please from long time bloggers……….

Today has been a good day ,  Out for a spot of late lunch at Nandos with the folks and the kids, After a lie in this morning, popped to see an old friend  who is going through a bit of a time at the moment and found that all is OK.  a few more details sorted out for the  efforts on the south coast roll

Now just chilling ready for the normal 9 to 5 tomorrow ( which I don’t actually mind )

My question is, and i would appreciate a spot of advice on this,

Should a personal blog be separate from a professional blog , what is considered the right thing…..

  • If I have something of interest from my  professional  world , should I blog it ?
  • If a blogger is looking for support for an idea for a product would they look to personal blog ?
  • Should i make requests  for information  on personal blogs ?

I think i have it summed up here.
