Even Big kids like to have fun sometimes

Even Big kids like to have fun sometimes, we all need a hobby, something that we enjoy , and that hopefully makes us smile, For me  that’s such an easy one, Like most of you , ( I hoa89677_d512a722b0b446bfa445fa43138d23e5pe) I have a good group of  family around  me that  support me , Me & Mrs OML( oldmanleslie) have been  blessed with 2 great boys…But this is not a serous  blog, Its all about  fun sometimes.

And for the ” blog ” if someone does a good job of something, you tell people  so that business gets more business and does good for more people

So there was I, just a normal summer weekend out and about  in Bognor.IMG_0195
Drumming with celebration samba  at a Spring Fayre. Doing our first performance . a bit of a procession , then we had our  break.

So off I went looking around the stalls  and things that were there .  That was where I met the nice ladies of  Face fanatics.  Look what they didScreen Shot 2015-11-19 at 18.03.42 to  me ( the beard doesn’t look so go, That was my work not theirs ).. All I know is that there were a lot of children walking around with Painted faces. so these ladies must have been busy  all day. They also said they can “pirate ”
me up for the autumn season.

Just for the record , I paid for the the nice ladies of  Face fanatics to make me up  and was not paid to attend the fayre. these are Just my opinions  as its all about the sharing

Strange locally that  for make up, masks and face paint etc  we alsca7b471a30b0f092d16e547a1d489b0ao have Maggot pie  who take it to a whole different league. I was also happy  to let these guys ” make up ” my son at  a comi-con11224380_10207295399360285_2725333559187263298_n event. Maggot Pie  dont just do Face paint, check out their web pages for Their effects.

They also provide characters for events locally and Nationally

It seems strange that my hobby takes me to a lot of free to enter events around the south , I meet a lot of creative people  and Have a lot of fun. the events that the band does are on their www. Some are free to attend, some  may charge.

So here’s  the point to the blog , there are of course many websites for giveaways and  cheap tickets for reference. My suggestion would be to scratch a little below the surface.Get involved where you can, as an individual , a family  or otherwise. You  may meet all sorts of People  that  run  businesses and  groups are all out there to make  a few pennies but they do it well and YES, I would recommend those above

Ice Nominate ex 2

The Ice Bucket
Challenge

Get involved in the perfect summer fundraising challenge that’s sweeping across social media. #IceBucketChallenge a friend and raise money to help people affected by cancer.

How does it work?

It’s simple. Just challenge someone via Facebook or Twitter to have a bucket of ice-cold water poured over their head in exchange for a text donation to Macmillan. Film it, share it, and then sit back and watch the nomination process take over. Take a peek at these videos to get an idea.

Sounds brilliant. What do I need?

  • A bucket
  • Ice
  • A smartphone
  • A towel
  • A change of clothes (highly recommended)
  • Immense bravery

Right. Got all that. What do I do now?

  1. 1. Fill the bucket with iced water
  2. 2. Pour it on your head
  3. 3. Film this on your smartphone
  4. 4. Post the video to Facebook / Twitter
  5. 5. Text to Donate £3 to Macmillan by sending ICE to 70550
  6. 6. Nominate up to three friends to do it next

Make sure you include this all important line when posting on social media:

I nominate XXX to take part in the #IceBucketChallenge in the next 48 hours and text ICE to 70550 to give £3 to Macmillan. (*Wimp out and text FINE to 70550 to give £10 instead).

Some things Bring you down to earth with a real Bump….its how you Bounce that counts i guess

A few weeks ago , I was lucky enough to be asked by a friend of mine, If i fancied doing a sponsored event to help raise  a few Pounds  for a worthy cause

Home was the  Cause, and it was to raise funds for a friend of My friends that  is going though a ” bit of a rough time of it ” at the moment to say the least. So even though i don’t know the lady  directly , ( and NO , im not naming her ) it was an obvious  decision  to say Yes.  The event was an easy enough, it was a 6 Mile round trip along the beach. and if you want to  make a donation around it  to the Charity you still can at   www.virginmoneygiving.com/DebbiePacey1  just please mention that you saw this ” on the blog ”

The  reasons i wanted to blog this were:

  • I thought that the people who went for the walk had done a great job and raised a couple of Hundred pounds, it turns out that  the figure was closer to £1000. Imageso well done to the Santa’s, kids, dog walkers, Morph suited ” red guys ”  and  bloggers in silly hats
  • It Turns out that the lady that organised this  event for her friend  was actually doing this as a small fundraiser for  a much Larger event Next year . She will be running a Marathon  in London 2014 and would love to raise Many thousands of pounds
  • Most people  who will see this will know of someone who is affected by  a terminal disease, they will know  the effects , and about picking up the pieces ,  some will look at the blog and  do nothing. Some may think about it and hope it doesn’t happen to them or any one they know  .
  • But these pImageeople turned out on a cold Morning in west Sussex to do something good for some one
    Image

Its People that make things  happen, its people who get results, and its only because of  people like my friend getting involved that good things like this  happen. It costs nothing to give up time to help on things like this. Surely if  the money raised from this sort of event  can  help just one person a little then its worth it.

Well done DEB, You are doing a great thing here………

Just like when we set off on the walk today

 WE ARE ALL BEHIND YOU

giving

or have a look at http://www.anthonynolan.org/8-ways  8 ways to save a life ,

How Amazing would that be

Or if you have a message of support for DEB

Old school is always the best way ……..

So today, it was proved to me that ” old School ” is the best way…. we heard from an old Friend of the family a couple of weeks ago that there was a local event that she would like to go to. Just to say the lady involved has no email , no PC, No smart phone. No internet access, She had seen an advert ” printed ” in a local Parish type Magazine

We knew it would be a nice day out with a friend any

sparks

way so off we went to the event… I of course had tried to find it on the www the night before & couldnt so my expectations werent High …

The event was brilliant, a proper local event but on a big scale. all sorts of things going on. we particularly liked the soprano singer . The tree was magnificent

It looks also like it’s an annual event so roll on 2014

Any one who follows the Blog will know from the summer that i know a couple of good places to go in Arundel for that illusive Latte, well today we were on our way to take our friend to our favorite

When almost like a little voice at the side of the road ( or was it that i saw the sign ) i was drawn to what turned out to be the BEST BROWNIE I HAVE EVER EATEN sage

so a great day out generally, a smashing lunch, thanks to the team at sparks yard

, and time with an old friend

Not a bad weekend, and it’s not over yet

All thanks to an Ad in a magazine that an old lady saw ……..Old school is the future

Just Get this one out far and wide

Just think, if everyone that saw this, told everyone they knew , and re blogged it  to everyone they knew, and they all donated  even a £1.00     How many Million users are there on this  site…

PLEASE RE BLOG it . you can even donate via paypal

https://paypal.dec.org.uk/philippines_typhoon_appeal

If you find a good site that does as it says, Tell people all about it

I just wanted to post about  a website that I have used now 3 times to book a holiday on. It’s all web-based , like so many sites now, but it has an edge. There is a voice at the end of a phone who will listen to what you say, and will actually tailor what you ask for. The site is  http://www.rentvillas.com/  and the site does exactly what you would think. at the moment for people in the UK it has a great PLUS POINT  that you pay in  US Dollars. The villas that we have used have  all been what i consider to be a high standard. and the company is easy to deal with . I haven’t linked to any specific accommodation on the site as i don’t want to influence  any choices. I would definitely use them again

rentvillas

They Have been in business  for almost 30 years so they must be doing something Good

Just to  add, the last time we used this site, we stayed at  this place  and i can confirm, It was as good as it looks  in the pictures, The staff locally were  really helpful

This is NOT a sponsored Blog, Simply My opinions

The Start of what could be a very noisy weekend ……Bring it on

So here it is , only 16.21 on a wet Saturday afternoon  in England , and  what a day  its been so far. The band i play in ….celebration samba

Celebration Samba

have performed 3 times today as part of the Arundel  Festival

, i guess we must be popular because we keep getting asked back .

I have discovered 2  new places  to go to indulge my favorite vice ( sneaky Latte’s )   and  i have  a gig to look forward to  tomorrow in Bognor Regis, and then also  on Monday in Worthing …. There is going to be a lot of drumming me thinks, then back to work on Tuesday .

If you are based on the south coast and want to come and see us perform . drop me  a line or have a look at the www…..

Thats enough for me for now , off to practice

Arundel folks are not put off by a bit of rain

Just to add that we did perform a total of 6  times over the 3 days, we won prizes for  some of the gigs, its nice to know that the judges like us , but most importantly  we play because we enjoy it . we would love to have you come and join us . so if you are based on the south coast of the UK anywhere near Worthing …Thursday nights at 7.30  drop the band a line via the www and we look forward to seeing you

Its Only a tune……………. so why does it pick me up and take me somewhere

ell, we all made it to the weekend,  Its been a good week, the boys seem to be enjoying the hols ( Doh )  and  there is a threat  that the sun may come back out to shine for a few days so that’s a bonus….

I blogged before, that  I’m a forty something year old fella, that  on the whole does Ok for himself and his family.  Today  i was woken on the alarm clock by the UK radio station  BBC radio 1………. same as every other morning , except this morning it was the jungle book playing at 6.30 so that put me in a good mood …….and then after ” snooze time ” the breakfast show was live  from  Ibiza ……Not a part  of the world i have had the pleasure of going to , always  fancied it, not got around  to it though…

Any how ,  dad dancing  while dressing , not a pretty sight, but  enjoyable, driving the arduous 4 miles to work,  and then 1.5 hours of radio 1 at work . playing all the old tracks I loved, what a great way to start the day off…… but only online for 7 days

One they didn’t play, i wished they had

Listen BBC Radio 1 via “The Radio”

Listen BBC Radio 1 via “The Radio” (Photo credit: [ Mooi ])

, and  a simple question ” how can music  feel like its picking you up and

taking you  away to a good place ? ”

have a great weekend

Another majorly Influential piece in my youth

, and only now do i feel like im ” fishing in the rivers of life “………….. enjoy.

I thought it was just a nice place in a good song, but apparently  its ” internet true ”

there has to be some event in here to take your Kids to this holiday and alledgedly they are all ” free” good luck

let me know how you get on   http://www.free-events.co.uk/  the events seem to be throughout the year as well so it might be good to use  in the autumn  and beyond

The band i play in…..

As a forty something with a fairly young outlook on life, i heard this lot playing at a local carnival about a year ago, it sounded like fun , And  here I am a year  later ( just about ) and yes, it is fun….   www.celebrationsamba.co.uk  drop a line via the www if you are keen to come and have a go , we are based in Worthing  in West Sussex.

Burgess Hill Bonfire Parade

One Of Our Bonfire Gigs

and if you prefer, we are on Facebook as well

Summer is most definitely here…..and its still all about the sharing

TEAM HOYT-3

All i have for you in this blog is  a few freebies  that I have found on the web that might be of interest ( bear in mind I’m in the UK ) and the offers may be UK-based also that i am a forty something married male so it’s not going to be something to set the world on fire  …Also something that I saw in the week that  Really has inspired me…

First of all the thing that Inspired me…. Lots of people   blog, Face book, tweet and do all sorts of things on the social media  scene, I’m just as guilty  as the next man of having an internet presence… while facebooking, i was sent a link that stated simply ” There are no words to describe what you’re about to see.” so we all see these  from time  to time, most of us ignore them, most of the time . i know i do, for some reason NOT this one . Any one who knows me knows why this will have hit home with me. I’m not major religious…I just have to work out in my head  if its better to do “e@things ” or like this dad has done, things in the real world that are really important.

and now for some freebies. under the theme of things from the www that have use in the REAL world

Any how, that s about it for now, thanks for dropping by

Not so much to report this week …..

Just so y'all know, This was one of the band performances last year ( 2012 ) and this is one of the reasons I love it so much

a bit of an insight into Me……

So here we are again, another week passed, and what a weekend it has been in our house…. A children’s birthday party,  a band performance that went very well, a sleepless night ( by choice )  and  still time to take a breath and blog it all…..Thoughts turn now to a couple of things, why did the media take delight in informing us last week that we have 10 years of  irrational weather  ahead of us , and  secondly , how soon before the shops start selling Christmas goods…..

Heres hoping for sunny days and lots of them over the summer

Lots of people getting hot and really feeling summery, as it lifts peoples spirits generally

just a little thought today…..

only a couple of things to blog about today, i suppose it is only Saturday morning , so it could be a good weekend………. Good luck to  my Number 01 son  on his D of E  practice hike …….If you find somewhere that’s good , tell every one about it ” the Elmer Tandoori “

&  you can believe some of what you see on the  web …..

have a great weekend

What an excellent & productive Day ……

Happy Saint Georges day to you all, For anyone that has been out on a procession, or a march , or just celebrating  the day , i hope you enjoyed it. I’m lucky that round  this part of the world there is an active scout group that  takes the Children for a march each year  and I’m generally lucky enough to join them and walk with them . So that was a nice way to start the day. Then its time after the march to come home and  decide that the grass needs a cut in the garden , Venture to get the mower out and find that it does actually start so  you never know , i might get another season out of it …  Then a trip to the tip to get rid  of the bags of rubbish, left it late enough so  it was straight in  & out Job , no messing around ion a queue….. Top this with meeting  one of the people i work with in town for a coffee, purely  by chance, the first decent bit of sunshine for more than 20 minutes, and a lazy Saturday afternoon after a busy morning in the shop   to boot, it hasn’t been a bad weekend.

Only thing i have to look to get done this week is get some awareness  of the forthcoming Marathon that  i am involved in  at Good wood Motor circuit, but  i will blog that  seperatly .

Hope you have had a good weekend too……….

a bit of a strange one really…..the streams were categorically crossed to day

Well, its  Tuesday  evening here in the almost sunny UK , it has been a bit of a strange 24 Hrs. Last night whilst  face booking and just surfing the inter web  the news broke of the marathon explosion in Boston, My first thought was to  people that work at a supplier that we use at Tempcon ( Onset )  as they are based in that part of the world.

So Using Linked In to message them, which I would normally only use if i wanted to change jobs, I sent my thoughts out to the USA. Haven’t had any bad news back so i guess we have to assume all is OK. I know this may seem strange to some but in the age of face tweeting and you tubing  where we all just email video chat, skype and TXT people, the Business and home worlds definitely collided and I realised that  you can have a business relationship that is very profitable, And also  that you don’t HAVE to like the people you work with.

But when something Goes wrong, its good to know that  people might be on your side and  thinking of you…

Ironic really  as only a few minutes before the attack i had contacted another business contact that I heard had some bad news to let them know I was thinking of them.

To the people in the states that i will send this out to, I hope all is well and no one is affected by the atrocities.

To the  man in Holland, i wish you good luck in all you do

Not Much happening on a rainy day on the coast, at least we’ve got Talent

So it  should be a nice thought, the idea of waking up on a spring morning and  taking a stroll along the coast, thinking of summer to come, and long days & lazy evenings…..

The reality is that for 13/4/13 in  my little part of the world, its dismal, raining, a bit blustery and not  good weather for a tan .. So not really much to blog about  other than:

  • a couple of competitions entered
  • a great deal  offered on ice cream for  a summer event  ( i will let you know about the event )
  • looking forward to  a bit of skating after a meal
  • watching Britain’s Got Talent , as the first one always has the best of the worst on it

I’m not promising to blog Daily but to those that are already following my attempts, Thank you

What a way to spend a week off…

So, my first blog post, What a scary thought, how to complete it, will any one actually  see it. I guess the only way to find out is to give it a go and see….

Had this week just past off from Tempcon   and this year as a family  we decided to have what they call in the UK  a “Stay-Cation “. Managed to get a few things done that we wanted around the house, Didn’t need the usual trip to B&Q  as  the cold & bad weather that we have had previously  meant No gardening.

Obviously being off meant yesterday was clear  for a spot of drumming with the band  which is always good .

A day out with the family at Chessington  went down well. In fact tempered with a couple of sessions  for the number one son  at the Driving School  and a spot of retail therapy at Ikea as number two son loves the hot-dogs  it hasn’t been a bad week off.

And then to top it all off, I followed  the example and started to do  some of the on-line Competitions  that a friend and a cousin had been doing for a while  & knowing that they had  won  things i was optimistic

I got my first win. Dont worry it not a life changer

Any how, that’s probably a bad attempt at a first blog, but  we all have to start somewhere
