Strange concept, but what a great find …James Guest House – Coleshill

Once again, up to the NEC for business this week , and had to find a place for the night, My boss found this place, what can i say about it.

Here goes

Apart from the bad traffic which wasn’t down to the accommodation, the place was clean, comfy, well equipped and had all i needed for a Night away

I was in the room ” Janice ” and there was beds for 3. this is a www based pic , but it is exactly as my room was James Guest House

A clean en suite shower room with a decent shower

Off road parking not a problem .

And the idea of ” self service ” for breakfast, and indeed anything you needed was brilliant

what a great place to stay and if you want, there are more pictures

So its the simple ideas that are often the best

On a recent great holiday to Dubai with the family, whilst sat on a beach, on the palm, in near 50C heat. i was  pleased to see that the Hotel  Give out free water and ice lollies to their guests during the day.  I guess it’s just one of those things that is a ” nice touch ” and   for this i say well done jumeriah.

The downside to a major hotel giving out bottles of water , all iced and cold in branded bags and nice for the guests is that there is a lot of Bottles left  that have to go to recycling.  So  Why should i choose  to blog about rubbish , well anyone that  knows me will know  of the company i work for  ” Tempcon” and through them i got to hear  about  the  WFAA. The link will tell you what they do , basically  my ” knowing of them ” has changed the way i think about waste

so lets cut through this, My  Idea was  to  simply condense  the bottles down before sending to recycling, there by optimising the space required, reducing the number of vehicles needed to move the bottles and  save fuel etc etc etc.

So My thanks go to the team  at the JUMEIRAH ZABEEIsaac LwakiL SARAY hotel  firstly  for giving me time with their managers to explain  the idea to them and for putting me in contact with   this man ( I wont name him  as it wouldn’t be fair  to him to directly), I’m sure that Jumeriah will do something good with Any money that they save as an international chain of hotels. As its part of their Green Globe  accreditation   . Also a big thank you for the things that the Hotel arranged for us as a gift.  My photo doesn’t do the suggestion any favours really but I hope you can see what was suggested .

It’s Just Nice to see that  a truly global brand will listen to a customer, will take feedback , and will also  act on it  quickly and effectively, I will be feeding this back to the managers  that I dealt with directly

Well done  Jumeriah

its all about the Sharing” especially when they are this good ” hotelchocolat” the summer fusions sleekster

So the purpose of a sponsored blog is to have some one send you a product, you fully evaluate it, and leave an honest opinion, I have to admit, I cant do that here today…..

Why ? you may ask. well as followers of my blog will know, it really is ” all about the sharing” and i firmly believe that if you are in this for any other reason, then you should have a re think..

So any way, I was asked to provide feedback on a new selection from the people at hotelchocolat

I was given a choice of what  was sent to me , and I went for  the  summer fusions sleeker. I knew i was to be sharing these out  at work , to get the most opinions, and therefore went for  what looked like the best selection

The Summer Fusions SleeksterNow at this point I would like to show you  lots of pictures of people enjoying choccy,  but I cant, I would like to tell you that some people said  that they were to rich in taste, but  they didn’t, so I cant , I would also like to tell you that I personally enjoyed  every one, But as it’s all about the sharing I cant. even do that

What I can say is everyone that had some  loved them, the comments were all good, from the MD  and right across the board.

The Hotelchocolate website where these lovely chocolates can be bought   describes them far better than i can as

“A collection of 28 chocolates to compliment your summer in the most delicious way. Packed with fresh, fruity flavours, indulgent caramels and nutty pralines, it’s the ultimate taste of summer! Perfect for warm afternoon picnics, sharing during the long restful evenings, or as a dinner party gift – if you can bear to part with it, of course.”

I would just say that although i was sent a box to review , and  there was no real way for me to return the product, overall, with the nice  packaging The Summer Fusions Sleekster in pastel colours, with the  attention to detail , including a card for me, and the brilliant way  they are presented in the box, although they are £24.00  for a box, this The Summer Fusions Sleekstershouldn’t be thought of as expensive,  just ”  reassuringly well  priced for quality  ”

My only regret  is that  just as when i was a small ” oldmanleslie” and I finished the last choccy on the layer, i wished there had been another layer underneath , And as we dont have long boozy afternoons at work, i cant  say how good these would be after a long BBQ session, i can only imagine

Thanks to the nice people at Hotelchocolate ,

Today has been a good day…..so far

So for a guy who works for a UK manufacturer  that supplies monitoring equipment, that isn’t exactly a dynamic product…..so far today,I have had a good day… I guess its all down to where the  things we supply  are used, How they  are used, and i find increasingly the Relationship  with the user Tempcon Instrumentation

Sure, you can do a lot by email, tweet, FB  and even Blogging, But i think that there are times when there is NO substitute  for getting  around the table with some one, Involving a coffee, and  actually talking to people

Today so  far has  been People researching global climate, international Dr’s of research…..and life critical fire training applications……all of which  have been with people whom i have known for a long time

So if  you want to have a browse across the website  for a UK Manufacturer that is 30+ years in business and  give  us a chance……. who knows, you could be the next great relationship  we have

all this , And its only 1 pm

Yes, today has been good so far.

what a great place for a fathers day Gift ….

So we all know that  its fathers day soon enough, me, i know what i am hoping for, and i know  that i will enjoy fathers day, cos in the oldmanleslie house, its not about the money, its the smiles and the nice times.

Any how, the reason for today’s blog, is a website that i wanted to tell you about, UK-based,  Ships globally, and  offers what i think would be Ideal gifts for Dads  for father’s day, Things that are a little “Gadgety” ” geeky” and scientific. From Brands that are world leaders.

for example ,  weather stations for the garden at prices that wont break the bank , traditional Gifts that look good & work well.  and gadgets that tell you all sorts about the weather where you are.Oregon Scientific Anywhere Weather Station

I will  add that they are now under the Brand of Tempcon , They are UK Based , and they are good when it comes to all things Customer service .

Might be worth a look for a father’s day Gift, they are even running a competition to win a weather station on their facebook page

If you do  have a look, let me know your thoughts, and don’t forget to tell them where you saw this Blog

This is NOT a sponsored Blog ,

So this one has to be a bit special….and it really is

To those that follow my blog, thank you . you will know i haven’t been doing this for very long. You may also appreciate that im not the best at blogging yet. but i am at a significant milestone for “oldmanlesliesblog” so i thought I would use this as an opportunity for something that brings all the areas i mention  together .

I drum,I skate , I let you know if something is good, i support UK manufacturing ‘cos i work for one   , and i love gadgets. So when i went skating  last week  and i saw all the people who were using Lights on their Skates I was impressed.

My first thought  was ” wow that would look great  on my drum ( and yes, i know that’s really sad, but i cant skate as well as the boys & girls that were wearing the lights )

It was weird  because lots of people had them, some  were  quite bright, and were static colours, Some were changing colours automatically  and seemed to me to be a lot brighter…. I did  some digging around and confirmed that in fact these were made by one of the guys at our skate club. so having seen them in action.  I thought I would get me a pair for my drum . I guess these lights can be used just about any where and that is testament to a good product in that it has more than 1 use . There is a www site  for these  which is http://www.skatelight.co.uk/  where you can find out more.

I know its unusual to blog about a product before you receive it  but having seen these working, i am so looking forward to receiving mine ( which i have paid for , this  is not a sponsored blog )

It simply unites all the key areas of my blog  and i hope you like it

its local to west Sussex with global potential  , built and designed by a Uk Manufacturer ,  a great gadget , Quality product,  & therefore , it’s all about sharing, when something is this good

and if there are other Skate parts you need

Something Good, Sustainable and low-cost

What a refreshingly good Story to see.

Simon Dale is a family man in Wales,

His interest in self-sustainability and an ecological awareness led him to dig out and build his own home—one of the loveliest, warmest, most inviting dwellings you could ever imagine. And it cost him only £3,000, about $4,700 American dollars!

Can you imagine a more charming entrance than this?Man Builds Fairy Tale Home for His Family – Total Cost £3,000 - Hobbit Home

Simon gives two reasons for building the home. The first elegant one, from his website, is: “It’s fun. Living your own life, in your own way is rewarding. Following our dreams keeps our souls alive.” His second reason is a plea for sustainability, in which he states that “our supplies are dwindling and our planet is in ecological catastrophe”. You can read the full and passionate statement here. Simon is also a photographer, and as you can see throughout this article, a talented one. A beautiful view in another home that Simon is helping build for someone else. (Originally, this was mistakenly identified as a photo of the home he and his family are living in.) The tools are fairly simple.Man Builds Fairy Tale Home for His Family – Total Cost £3,000 - Hobbit Home Interior The main concession to modernity was a chainsaw, which he used to cut down about 30 small trees. No old growth forest fell to his family’s needs. He focused on tools that used his own energy, like shovel, chisel, and hammer. Yet it took him only four months to produce this lovely home. The home is constructed from wood, stone, straw, and has a sod roof. It’s heated with a wood fireplace and has a solar panel for power. Most materials were scavenged and refurbished appliances. The effect, though, isn’t of a run-down get-by-with-second-best . It’s creative, artistic, elegant, and cozy. It is, in fact, magical. Most amazingly, the home didn’t require years of training or experience. Simon had none. He’s not an architect. He’s not an engineer. He’s not a carpenter. He started from scratch in every sense. He told the Daily Mail: “Being your own have-a-go architect is a lot of fun and allows you to create and enjoy something which is part of yourself and the land rather than, at worst, a mass-produced box designed for maximum profit and the convenience of the construction industry.” Building from natural materials does away with producers’ profits and the cocktail of carcinogenic poisons that fill most modern buildings. He was fortunate in obtaining the land for his home. The plot, a bit of a large piece, was given to him in exchange for its caretaking. Simon Dale, his wife Jasmine Saville, and their two children in front of their completed home just 4 months after starting it! This and all photos on this page are by Simon Dale (http://simondale.net). The attention to making the home eco-friendly extends to a compost toilet, the use of straw over a plastic layer for insulation, and a refrigerator that’s cooled with air that flows from under the home’s foundation. Cement is a high carbon emitter, so the interior walls are finished with lime plaster instead of cement plaster. Simon is now involved in building another home for the Lammas Project, an organization dedicated to low-impact building. Focus is not only on the homes themselves, but also on planting trees and gardens, and on low impact living in general. Here’s how he sums up his view on his home and the Lammas Project: This building is one part of a low-impact or permaculture approach to life. This sort of life is about living in harmony with both the natural world and ourselves, doing things simply and using appropriate levels of technology. These sort of low-cost, natural buildings have a place not only in their own sustainability, but also in their potential to provide affordable housing which allows people access to land and the opportunity to lead more simple, sustainable lives. I cannot imagine a home more lovely, appealing, and livable than this one. This could be and should be the wave of the future in home building. For more information about Simon Dale’s home, plans, and more photos, please go to his website, A Low Impact Woodland Home. No Sneaky Shop Bought latte’s today …

Today has been one of those weird sorts of days, Not the usual  Saturday in the ” oldmanleslie ” household.. very briefly

Went to see the  real ” oldmanleslie ”  this morning to sort out a few things, A brief trip into  sunny Bognor Regis, bumped into  one  of the guys i work with and his lovely wifeSpot of lunch which was fine

Then a trip up to the out-of-town retail park , for mrs Oldmanleslie to get a present for some one

Home for a spot of tea, then  sent Number 01 son off to  his skating,  whilst i was at home relaxing..

Best part of the day  was coffee this morning, Not a sneaky latte, but a ” proper coffee ” made from  the finest beans from Dads supplier, all i can go on is that the coffee tasted good  to me

A meal that made Business a pleasure ……Shimla Pinks what a great place to eat

I was at the NEC for an exhibition on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, and  was fortunate enough to be taken to Shimla Pinks. For our evening meal.

Image

What can I say, the restaurant is huge with plenty of Space, the food was gorgeous, and my only regret is that  we didn’t get the name of what we later found out to be the owner who looked after us. There were 7 of us, we opted for the Banquet arrangement as it gave us a great selection. The venue was true to its word, if you wanted something else you just asked for it. The service was quick, but not in any way intrusive. We went there because our MD had been there many years before, It turned out that the restaurant was still owned by the same people then. I didn’t get to see the bill as it was a company meal, but all i can say is that it was an excellent meal with great service and it made business a pleasure. Anyone who knows me knows, that its not always about the price, sometimes Quality Costs….this wasn’t my money but i suspect it was worth every penny

What an excellent & productive Day ……

Happy Saint Georges day to you all, For anyone that has been out on a procession, or a march , or just celebrating  the day , i hope you enjoyed it. I’m lucky that round  this part of the world there is an active scout group that  takes the Children for a march each year  and I’m generally lucky enough to join them and walk with them . So that was a nice way to start the day. Then its time after the march to come home and  decide that the grass needs a cut in the garden , Venture to get the mower out and find that it does actually start so  you never know , i might get another season out of it …  Then a trip to the tip to get rid  of the bags of rubbish, left it late enough so  it was straight in  & out Job , no messing around ion a queue….. Top this with meeting  one of the people i work with in town for a coffee, purely  by chance, the first decent bit of sunshine for more than 20 minutes, and a lazy Saturday afternoon after a busy morning in the shop   to boot, it hasn’t been a bad weekend.

Only thing i have to look to get done this week is get some awareness  of the forthcoming Marathon that  i am involved in  at Good wood Motor circuit, but  i will blog that  seperatly .

Hope you have had a good weekend too……….

a bit of a strange one really…..the streams were categorically crossed to day

Well, its  Tuesday  evening here in the almost sunny UK , it has been a bit of a strange 24 Hrs. Last night whilst  face booking and just surfing the inter web  the news broke of the marathon explosion in Boston, My first thought was to  people that work at a supplier that we use at Tempcon ( Onset )  as they are based in that part of the world.

So Using Linked In to message them, which I would normally only use if i wanted to change jobs, I sent my thoughts out to the USA. Haven’t had any bad news back so i guess we have to assume all is OK. I know this may seem strange to some but in the age of face tweeting and you tubing  where we all just email video chat, skype and TXT people, the Business and home worlds definitely collided and I realised that  you can have a business relationship that is very profitable, And also  that you don’t HAVE to like the people you work with.

But when something Goes wrong, its good to know that  people might be on your side and  thinking of you…

Ironic really  as only a few minutes before the attack i had contacted another business contact that I heard had some bad news to let them know I was thinking of them.

To the people in the states that i will send this out to, I hope all is well and no one is affected by the atrocities.

To the  man in Holland, i wish you good luck in all you do

A spot of advice please from long time bloggers……….

Today has been a good day ,  Out for a spot of late lunch at Nandos with the folks and the kids, After a lie in this morning, popped to see an old friend  who is going through a bit of a time at the moment and found that all is OK.  a few more details sorted out for the  efforts on the south coast roll

Now just chilling ready for the normal 9 to 5 tomorrow ( which I don’t actually mind )

My question is, and i would appreciate a spot of advice on this,

Should a personal blog be separate from a professional blog , what is considered the right thing…..

  • If I have something of interest from my  professional  world , should I blog it ?
  • If a blogger is looking for support for an idea for a product would they look to personal blog ?
  • Should i make requests  for information  on personal blogs ?

I think i have it summed up here.

What a way to spend a week off…

So, my first blog post, What a scary thought, how to complete it, will any one actually  see it. I guess the only way to find out is to give it a go and see….

Had this week just past off from Tempcon   and this year as a family  we decided to have what they call in the UK  a “Stay-Cation “. Managed to get a few things done that we wanted around the house, Didn’t need the usual trip to B&Q  as  the cold & bad weather that we have had previously  meant No gardening.

Obviously being off meant yesterday was clear  for a spot of drumming with the band  which is always good .

A day out with the family at Chessington  went down well. In fact tempered with a couple of sessions  for the number one son  at the Driving School  and a spot of retail therapy at Ikea as number two son loves the hot-dogs  it hasn’t been a bad week off.

And then to top it all off, I followed  the example and started to do  some of the on-line Competitions  that a friend and a cousin had been doing for a while  & knowing that they had  won  things i was optimistic

I got my first win. Dont worry it not a life changer

Any how, that’s probably a bad attempt at a first blog, but  we all have to start somewhere
