Deli express -Bognor Regis

10/12/16 Update on the blog, Unfortunately  this wonderful deli is No More , Such a shame, however there is always  ” the tank” for great coffee in town.

So those that know my Blog will know that I have many times sung the praises of a business that for all the right reasons is no more….but for once,it’s a success story…

The team behind the sandwich factory have moved into the high street into bigger cafe / restaurant premises…still offering the great selection of baguettes and cakes. Great coffee aswell helps.

image

And of course my BBC baguette which was just a nice and tasty as always

image

I know my picture doesn’t do it justice.this is cos the half I ate already was gorgeous.

Not too pricey and with all the usual face book and email so you can order for local free delivery
I am sure it’s going to do well, so if you are here for  Holidays, butlins,a day out, shopping. it’s a great place to stop for lunch or a snack
Good luck deli Express

What a success story

And just for the record this is NOT a sponsored post

“The tank” a little place with a Massive approach to customer service

Right in the heart of Bognor Regis Town there used to be a McDonald’s.now this was a McDonald’s that like many other towns had their people  that would meet around the front of it and will be open all hours. it  would serve all the usual stuff however. This wasn’t enough for the huge corporate13235356_1739686559623497_4101827746472934004_othat is McDonald’s, who  decided to take the restaurant out of Bognor Regis and it’s place was  empty for a little while

But now the site that was formerly the restaurant has been brought up and is being developed at the moment it is the smallest coffee shop and bar in Europe and it’s called “the tank”

There is a lot of work going on at the tank to make it a venue for all sorts13450240_1749017372023749_6410048138397298701_nof things for all kinds of people but initially it’s a coffee shop that seats no more than about 4 or 5 people and it’s friendly and it’s good and it’s quality coffee and it’s nice. I personally as a resident of Bognor Regis wish the owner or the very very best luck in getting it off the ground I’ve used it a couple of times, the  coffee is  good, doughnuts are gorgeous and  it’s such a nice place to go if you are in town whilst on holiday

Its right in the middle of town

41-43 High Street

Bognor Regis

So nice to see a start up doping well. and  have  great feedback, but dont take my word for it

Children go free in fancy dress for Halloween 2016….now that always sounds good when free means Free. I’m sure there is lots to spend your money on when you get there

This could be a brilliant offer for anybody who’s got young children and lives in the south of the UK.

Basically if your children are dressed up in Halloweencapture2 fancy dress then there is free admission to Monkey World one of the best attractions along the south coast here is the link to the Monkey World website if you want to verify this and I found this link on h u k d have a great Halloween and remember it’s all about having fun

Here are the T’s & C’s from the monkey world website at this link

Look & Sea Visitor Center Surrey Street Fisher mans Quay, Littlehampton – such a great place for a coffee, a meal and a base for a day in town

As a family  we a ” wheel chair  relation ” we found recently  and have used many times  the look & sea Centre  as its fairly local  to us. It has facilities for disabled access. good food at reaEpilepsy explained's photo.sonable prices , a great view over the river and down  to the sea , friendly staff, in fact all that you would want in a restaurant. always best to book a  table in advanLook and Sea Centre's photo.ce as  because its so good , it can get busy on sunny days. I am  not a blogger that has taken pictures  of the food I eat here, but as  I have never had a meal that was anything less that  lovely it  shouldn’t need pictures of the food

Full details of the look and sea  center  can be found on their page  here  Just for the record, i have not been paid for this blog, its just that I believe if a place or business offers good service then you tell people  about it

Just an Amazing ” freebie ” day out – Hastings Pirate day 2016

Firstly , I admit to having taken this from the web ( my own blog infact ) so is that allowed , who knows Not to sure if I should use the text above for this  as it’s really a review of  what has been a great  year  ( band wise  )  and  there are still events to come this year .

I have the pleasure of performing with  Celebration Samba, a band based in   West Sussex . The band has been around for a while  and  it seems to get better  every year . The reason for the blog is an event that  being in the band Takes me to  each year, a great day for Families, Adults, Children, mums and dads alike .

Its my involvement with the band that has taken me to so many places, dressed me up in fancy dress, made me smile, and  really enjoy something that other people seem to enjoy me doing .

Hastings Pirate Day 2016 on Sunday 17th July 2016

There is just so much going on, and its only if you tell people about these things that the word gets out

So why blog about it, well, the band has shown me that  it’s not just the ” big & shiny ” events that are fun, Dressing up. and playing & performing  can be good & its so much fun.Last  year has also seen oldmanleslie, don his pirate  wig, use his best AAAAARRRRRRR

Before I get picked up saying the event is Free, you will have to pay to get there, you may have to buy  food / drink etc, and you may need to get parking and things for your children.

So I guess the main point of the blog, is that  if like me you are at a carnival procession ( big or small)and you see something that looks like fun, it’s always  good to ask, because speaking from experience, if I hadn’t asked, I wouldn’t have found out about celebration samba, and I couldn’t have told you about all the wonderful  free to attend events going on in this part of the world

If you fancy Joining the band, have a look at their www and see if you can get along to rehearsals , full details and a Little history  are here and if you think it’s just ” 40 somethings like oldmanleslie “. no we have all ages  in the band.and its NOT  always about piracy.Mums, dads, grannies, granddads, father & sons, Generally people just having a good time entertaining people

For the blog,  my involvement with  the band
has cost me to buy kit and rehearse, however it has shown me that there  are so many carnivals and free events that are typically  English around the country, its still a good  ( and noisy if you are drumming ) place to be.

“see you at the pirate day , be sure to come and say HI “

Trying a new place..and a new question

Popped into dunelm today..just for a sneaky latte when the ” Old man Leslie” clan. Went shopping. Like everywhere else like this it has a coffee shop. Unlike a lot of other places the Barista was up to the question” can you make me a nice coffee of your design that you haven’t made before”

A strange request, but the result is gorgeous.

image

Although you can’t taste pictures….

Any how,if you are out rainy day shopping in this part of the world, Brunch, coffee, lunch or otherwise  i would say  it was worth a visit

Can comment on prices as MrImage of stores ” oldmanleslie ” was treating me , but when its good, you tell people.

I cant even tell you what it was i had as i forgot to ask, its just to say that  it was refreshing to find a person  that was ” up for the challenge ”  and knew enough to make  ” a nice cup of coffee ”

I wonder if on the board one day they might put  ” awkward customers mystery coffee ” .

Gallery Restaurant & Tea Rooms – Littlehampton ( There are better alternatives )

We popped into this restaurant for a bit of lunch today, Its right in the middle of all the Harbour park development in Littlehampton  ( west Sussex ) . Just a briefIMG_20160605_125140460[2] review…so here goes

Dirty Cutlery that we had to clean,No means of anyone with a wheelchair actually having a card terminal brought out to them to pay,so in this instance “the real oldmanleslie  had a freebie ” No one bringing cutlery out to you, the waiter staff behind the counter ” threw/ dropped ” the bottles of drink on a tray. and for a restaurant on the seafront serving predominantly fish, NO Tartar Sauce available. The fish was OK and enough of it.

2@scampi& chips, 1@cod & chips with 3 soft drinks £29….so not exactly “cafe ” prices

My recommendation , if its fish you want , then for take away, it has to be Freds of littlehampton and if its a restaurant then always the fish factory . both of which i have used previously and can recommend.

Many things Touch Many people in Many ways…i wish Cancer would just move a stage further away from me

The ” C ” word, the  “oh no he/she hasn’t got IT Have they ”  so many other expressions  that people use  when Cancer first hits them in their life  and affects either them, or some one  that they Know .

I make no apology for the number of links in this post or the lack of Pretty pictures , There are a lot of things I want to draw attention to, Its Not easy as I’m not going to name the people that have  been affected by this. That wouldn’t be right , I will send them a link out, they can do with it what they will.

I consider myself to  be  a generally lucky sort of fella, I personally  ( to date ) have not had to deal with ” the big C ”  in my own Direct Family. But as any one who knows “oldmanleslie” will be aware, I lost  an uncle to cancer  who was one of the nicest  men, in fact   the nicest Gentleman you could hope to meet.

I lost a very dear friend of mine & the family who was taken far too early , and I now have a friend of the family  recently Diagnosed. I have seen the effect on my Folks  when their friends have gone. Basically I think that cancer , There, i used the word…. cancer, cancer, cancer, cancer, cancer absolutely Sucks, it wrecks lives and leaves a very hard to shift slice in  peoples lives.

So any chance to do something  that  raises awareness, funds, and may possibly  reduce the chance of even 1 person having to go  through the ringer has top be a good thing. And this is where the parts of my life all came together  and resulted in me Blogging about an amazing Charity  that needs awareness. I drum with Celebrationsamba we are based in Worthing on the south coast of the UK . we are a few years old and  we are growing in presence, Numbers and  where we perform. We are on the up. How easy a cVoluntary Action Worthinghoice was it  when we were asked to play at a local event  for cancerwise ..
Obviously  a “NO Charge ” gig that we hope be asked to play each year.

So why blog about a gig……….. because i have never seen so many people in one place  all  there for the same reason , having a quintessentially English  Fair , on st Georges day, with the Homesun shining, by the sea. Having a cuppa & a cake  and  chatting to friends. A great day, not super dynamic, Not internationally attended by ” A ” listers . but a brilliant day , raising awareness and Money for a great cause, I’m not asking you to donate, you can do that here if you want

I wont link out  to a friends “event ” that she is doing in memory of a dear friend of ours ”  I would just leave you with the thought  that if some one asks you  to step up and help them ” for charity” there is so much more that you can do than put pennies in a pot.

And yes, for those that know,  i hope  our old mate was up there some where  having a chuckle at me hitting all the wrong  steps trying to dance

So when you ask……you definetly get – London road coffee shop, Bognor regis

I prefer to shop where possible at the independent stores in town, I guess if everyone did, and didn’t use the large chains all the time, we would be a better place, that s just my opinion….any way, as I have previously claimed to have found the best coffee and the best place to have it on the planet, I had written off that side of my Blog. Until this morning when me and my long suffering wife were out in town and wanted a coffee as we had a few minutes spare …Only one place for it. And its a place that never disappoints Service is always good, the staff are really friendly, and the prices aren’t too bad either

So why Blog about a shop….

Well I like  to be a challenge sometimes and I as I had my ” freebies ”  from the loyalty cards, I dimagedecided to ask  the barista  ” can you make me a nice cup of coffee that you have never made before ” . Daunting when she said she had been there for 5 years …
What can I say, the lady took the challenge and made for me what she called a Vanilla Americano with a flat white top…   simply enough I guess, but tasted lovely. My recommendation if you are in Bognor on holidays, staying at Butlin’s for a weekend, or is a local, just popped out for a few bits, in Bognor then it has to be… And for the record, although it was s freebie coffee from my  card , I wasn’t ” given it ” . Its just that this place is soooo good

The London Road Coffee Shop

Some times an endorsement doesn’t help

So sometimes when you buy a branded product and you buy it often you kind of know what it’s going to taste like. Tonight I drank the last of my christmas stock of various ginger beer that I had bought.
there were many different varieties and this one was the original Crabbies alcoholic ginger beer. Which I have had before.I had a few over time. This one tasted different. Same brand, same fridge, same amount of time. It just didn’t taste as good as usual.

image

I couldn’t work it out. What was different, was I imagining things…
All I could see that was different was this was a bottle that was offering me a chance to win a load of tfi Friday goods

Would a regular manufacturer make a different batch just for TV advertising and why does everything now have to have a competition with it .?

image

The drink was almost as nice as usual it’s just I guess now that it looks a little different so in my mind it tastes a  little different

Driving Theory test Practice – cos we can all do with a refresher from time to time

So once again, Autumn nights, winter just around the corner. Driving at night, sleet, snow, and frost, all the things that really should keep you off the road …….

Me, I was lucky enough to get a refresher session with a great driving instructor last year , even though I thought I knew it all , a few hours with  Wendy Wiseman  showed me how wrong  I was , i’m sure if you contact Wendy via her FB page  she will be able to advise you  mirror

But road safety I take  to heart, so I was pleased to find on the back of the HUKD  site  the following   which can only help , and I guess if it saves one accident then that’s good

http://www.gov.uk/practise-your-driving-theory-test

Happy & safe  driving

and once again, Shimla Pinks – Birmingham Did not dissapoint

Shimla Pinks Indian Restaurant, Birmingham One again , up  we all went from work  to the NEC for the energy Event. What a busy show, what a great  exhibition. What a long day, talking about  ” Watts”  no pun intended……

The day was made a whole lot easier  when we were told we were doing  for dinner at Shimla Pinks

All i can say about  this place is WOW  for the food,

Amazing  service, and this time i asked for the gents name ” it translates appareShimla Pinks Birminghamntly to mike ”

Gorgeous desert, and an overall  excellent end to a very long and tiring day

I cant comment  on value as i wasn’t paying, but we all went for choice of the presidents banquet  which was lovely , and Just right for me

I know there are a lot of similar places in Birmingham , however  if you want a recommendation for a great  meal in a lovely clean  restaurant  at a relaxed pace

Strange concept, but what a great find …James Guest House – Coleshill

Once again, up to the NEC for business this week , and had to find a place for the night, My boss found this place, what can i say about it.

Here goes

Apart from the bad traffic which wasn’t down to the accommodation, the place was clean, comfy, well equipped and had all i needed for a Night away

I was in the room ” Janice ” and there was beds for 3. this is a www based pic , but it is exactly as my room was James Guest House

A clean en suite shower room with a decent shower

Off road parking not a problem .

And the idea of ” self service ” for breakfast, and indeed anything you needed was brilliant

what a great place to stay and if you want, there are more pictures

what a great little place, in a lovely little village -” jerichos”

On a late summers afternoon, when you are strolling through a large village , and you see the usual brands of Tesco, costa, boots, whsmith and a few others, you might be surprised to see a little independent shop  doing so well, …. well we found  Jerichos. What a great little place, not only selling sweets  that i hadn’t seen for ages, but selling some of the imported stuff that you just cant get in the UK . The village is rustington in west Sussex its a quaint place but im not sure if village does it justice for its size.

There is plenty of parking, plenty of shops , and most importantly plenty of places to look around..Any way back to Jerichos. Great selection to choose from . Prices not too bad  ( £1.00 for a can of cherry dr pepper )  which i  don’t think was too badIMAG0859 . Gave the boys the modern equivalent of  a few pennies they could spend, as I’m not one of those dads that takes kids to places then says they can’t have this or that . and let them go and choose the bits they wanted  .I’m not to  sure about the ” yoo hoo” but it sounded nice.

Sorry I cant give you pics of what the boys had, it’s all been scoffed ( I suppose it doesn’t hurt once in a while )

But one thing I did get which I have been looking for  for ages, is the  bag that has the descriptions of the jelly IMAG0860beans from Jelly Belly  so I can now  get started on the pot I got given earlier in the year that  had no flavours listed on them

Any way, like all good businesses there is a www for  jerichos   and of course , a face book and all the usual  tweet stuff, I just thought that in the spirit of having found somewhere nice , I would share with you , I have not been sponsored for this blog

Ice Nominate ex 2

The Ice Bucket
Challenge

Get involved in the perfect summer fundraising challenge that’s sweeping across social media. #IceBucketChallenge a friend and raise money to help people affected by cancer.

How does it work?

It’s simple. Just challenge someone via Facebook or Twitter to have a bucket of ice-cold water poured over their head in exchange for a text donation to Macmillan. Film it, share it, and then sit back and watch the nomination process take over. Take a peek at these videos to get an idea.

Sounds brilliant. What do I need?

  • A bucket
  • Ice
  • A smartphone
  • A towel
  • A change of clothes (highly recommended)
  • Immense bravery

Right. Got all that. What do I do now?

  1. 1. Fill the bucket with iced water
  2. 2. Pour it on your head
  3. 3. Film this on your smartphone
  4. 4. Post the video to Facebook / Twitter
  5. 5. Text to Donate £3 to Macmillan by sending ICE to 70550
  6. 6. Nominate up to three friends to do it next

Make sure you include this all important line when posting on social media:

Fish Finger Sarnies & a root beer float …….So this ones an important Blog for me, Where to spend the hard earned Pennies

Don’t worry, oldmanleslie isn’t about to go and get  all serious, well not overnight any way. For the first time in my blog, there is conflict ., ( shock horror )

I’m based in  west Sussex, and this time  of year, we are blessed with a lot of sunshine, so days out , at the shops, on the beach, an evening stroll along an almost deserted prom ,
and yes that really is our local prom and the sunsets are that good

and at the end of the prom you find

The Lobster pot.

There are many reasons to go here  on a sunny day in summer, or for a refreshing  autumn stroll. And i have blogged  about it before

One reason to go is the Amazing Fish Finger Sandwiches, that they do. I suppose i am ” not very wellinformedoldmanleslie” but i didn’t know you could get these…. so to find them on my doorstep was  a bit of a coup

Putting the Lobster-pot  aside for a moment, I was keen to  see what the good people at sparks yard had done to improve their offering  in Arundel. Now i know some bloggers only review freebies, well that’s not the way it works with “oldmanleslie”  its nice to get freebies of course, however  why should business  have to fork out for  opinions…..Any how  Back to the loft

Mrs Oldmanleslie and I Parked ” down by the river ” in Arundel, and had a nice stroll   along the banks of the river , up through  Arundel. avoiding the  multiple coach loads of students & visitors to the castle…. and there it was, clearly visible  from the end of Tarrant street

so now the facts, Easy access to the shop , although parking in Arundel needs looking at . easy  wheelchair access to all floors of the shop  and restaurant  via their own lift,  Always  clean inside.  loftWell refurbished  top floor restaurant that we tried to just pop into. we were soon asked if ” are you Chris ”  and shown to the reserved Table  by the window that they had ” reserved for us ”  I have to say Mrsoldmanleslie liked that ”  We were served well,  quickly but not  invasively . and  we were left to order our food. After a nice chat with what turned out to be one of the owners

” stop, Hammer time “

for the  first time as a blogger  i should have taken a picture of something i was about to consume , ( I didn’t )  so you will have to believe me that £2.50 for a drink  was the best value in a long time. Imported root beer that you can buy in the shop , used to make an ice cream float, with a curly straw, now that’s the taste of childhood .

A quick look down the menu for food, and there it was. The fish finger sandwich….. so apologies to Andrew and the team, I’m sure that everything else on the menu was fine, and maybe we will  be back soon to try it, however that’s a favourite with all us Leslie’s, so  there in lies the dilemma

Go for what you know, and now have a choice of venues that both serve excellent  food, or risk going off “Piste ” and getting something you don’t like ?

We are going to have to go back and find out i guess, it certainly wont be a hard choice and when a place is just that little bit too far away  to walk to, it makes it all the more special to be well looked after  by them.

So I can’t take credit for the images ( taken from the www)   and i cant  take credit for the effect on the waistline ( that’s  your responsibility
however Either way, if you are in west Sussex for holidays and looking . Just remember
On the beach in Felpham = The lobster-pot
Shopping and  touristy things in Arundel  = Sparks yard  / The loft
Either way ” the fish finger sandwiches are excellent,” and the root beer  just seals the decision  for me

The event started at 11.45 am, courtesy of Spirit FM West Sussex, outside the Regis Centre and Alexandra Theatre, and we were kindly advised to look out at sea for the momentous event. what a great place for a fathers day Gift ….

So we all know that  its fathers day soon enough, me, i know what i am hoping for, and i know  that i will enjoy fathers day, cos in the oldmanleslie house, its not about the money, its the smiles and the nice times.

Any how, the reason for today’s blog, is a website that i wanted to tell you about, UK-based,  Ships globally, and  offers what i think would be Ideal gifts for Dads  for father’s day, Things that are a little “Gadgety” ” geeky” and scientific. From Brands that are world leaders.

for example ,  weather stations for the garden at prices that wont break the bank , traditional Gifts that look good & work well.  and gadgets that tell you all sorts about the weather where you are.Oregon Scientific Anywhere Weather Station

I will  add that they are now under the Brand of Tempcon , They are UK Based , and they are good when it comes to all things Customer service .

Might be worth a look for a father’s day Gift, they are even running a competition to win a weather station on their facebook page

If you do  have a look, let me know your thoughts, and don’t forget to tell them where you saw this Blog

This is NOT a sponsored Blog ,

Such an Inspiration ……………………

Just a bit of catching up on the Blog to do this morning, so  a few things that have been  on my mind this week, Shall i clog up people’s emails with individual Blogs, or just drop it all into one Blog ?

So here it comes, a mixed up Blog  :

Firstly and most important to me , its  only a month  until me and my Boys go out for our annual  trip to good wood for a bit of a skate .  this year  we have been offered  help by  quite a few  people , all skating, Scooting  & wheeling in support of  littlehamptonshopmobility.co.uk.  we will be trying to live Blog  on the day , but I’m not promising , as it’s all about the Skating for me for one day  only.   And also that for the first time in a long time, there are 3 generations of ” oldmanleslie” including the proper one out for the day, doing good things, and having  fun

Like every thing else, there is of course a button  to if you want to support us  financially. Just click-through here

Second thing for the week.

We  all think that our dad is the best  in the world, they are always special to us for many reasons. Just because  “it’s all about the Sharing ” i am going to share with you  a little secret, My Dad IS the greatest in the world, I have absolutely  no doubt about that, But I’m pretty sure that i can tell you  who the Number 02 best  dad is as well,  This dad is a TRUE  inspiration , and if you dig around a little on the web  you will see why

Then , during the week i had a bit of a downer ,Nothing too serious , i just heard on local TV news about  thegooddeeddiary. this is a positive thing  that a guy in the UK  is doing and it is to be praised, the downer was the thought that followed, ” isn’t it a shame that this isn’t the ” norm ” any more ”  and wouldn’t it be good to get back to it . Possibly Luke Can Keep it going and inspire others around him. Good deeds don’t have to cost money, we can all do them , just even 1 a day

But i ended the week on a positive, and it wasn’t  a sneaky latte, or  a free day out, it wasn’t  even something that i had been sent from a  PR /company to review. it was because i went  last weekend  in the pouring rain to see  the boys and girls at malpass meats. I will send them a link  to  the blog, however i just thought it was worth  a mention that  the steak we got was  Mouth watering” cooked of course by Mrs Oldmanleslie” and  over the last 20 years of  buying from them  i have always had great  meat,  cracking service . you might in fact call it ” legendary ”

so much to blog from this week…so lets do individual blogs this time

Once again , Here comes Eurovision…….

a chance for a bit of escapism and fun, everyone in the UK  knows that whilst  the result  isn’t fixed, there are certain ” givens ” in the voting  that mean we probably wont be hosting next year here.. still, good luck to our entrant ” Molly “    I guess it’s all in good spirit, and  at least it does throw up the occasional  classic tune that gets well and truly in your head , and stays there .

One of My personal Favorites  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d2N740Je8I0   and you will have to click to find out

Happy Eurovision weekend  everyone

Not what i expected…………. But Brilliant

So last year , the maistre of the band i drum in Suggested that we had a ” trip out ” and some of you will have seen by blog about the Night. it was free, great, a lot of fun, and  an annual event . For me , on the night , apart from being with “ the band ” and not having to perform, it was being in Glastonbury, a quaint English town, and hearing  Sham 69 Blaring through the night

What a great place for a hair cut ( revised blog )

So here is my update after visiting Cellys, here i am   only 3-4 weeks later and  my ” old Barnet ” needed a trim  and a hack again, so this time  i went into a local independent that just opened up  …. they don’t have a www site, i hope they don’t need one,

Only a facebook page , and with service like i had tonight, they will be a success, i showed them the same picture  i showed cellys and  WOW  What a hair cut

Excellent service,  great price ( cheaper than cellys) although i would have paid more.

Original Blog, as below

www.cellys.co.uk/bognorregis_profile.html

and now that I have been,…………

This one is a bit of a strange blog, I seem to start  a lot with that , maybe that’s me. In fact this time im sure it was. so I went in, didn’t have to wait very long which is nice as I hadn’t booked.  I was  ” called for ” by my hairdresser. she was friendly. so no issues there  at all .

I told her what  I wanted, I even showed her a picture which after a little laugh about me and the person looking like brothers if I lost 5 Kg, we agreed could be done.

My hair was washed, I always have enjoyed that . then I was taken to the chair.

It wasn’t just a clipper cut I wanted. and  when the lady ( sorry I didn’t take the name ) was finished. I wasn’t too sure about the results. However I paid  and at the promise of the manager if I wasn’t OK they would re-do it, I left. Grumbling a little  as  my hair was gone, and  I couldn’t get used to it . this is the surprise  that i dont like with customer service  these days ( doesnt that make me sound old )  surely it should be ” right first time” ….and in my opinion  the hair cut looks nothing like the picture I showed.

so its time to let the world know ( or at least the little bit of it that see’s my blog )

today , i am back again volunteering at  ” the shop ” and NOW  its just about 2 weeks to go untill our BIG fund raiser

“the shop ” being  Littlehampton Shop Mobility , I get here when i can to help out as  i think its good to try to do what you can , when you can, It’s not all about the Money, or the freebies. But as always ” its all about the sharing ”

Today  we have what looks like the first hint of a summer’s day  and i hope that we are busy , cos if we are that means that people  that have Mobility issues are  using us to get themselves out and about to enjoy the sun.

Also here preparing for  the South Coast roll, where this year a team of ” mad fools ”  will be trying to propel themselves on skates, skateboards, in wheel chairs  and anything else they can find that isn’t motorized or pedaled , around good wood motor circuit  in Chichester ( West Sussex UK)

So why do i want to tell you this, well here comes the punchline……

We are doing it all in aid of the shop to raise funds to buy vital resources to help the local community. So I hope you will tell all your friends about  us, and maybe find it possible to support us

There will be pictures from this years event posted of course, but here are  some of our star skaters & Imageboarders from last years  attempt  when we raised in excess of £500  Image

There is a Facebook page for our efforts  and we will update as we get closer to the event

Image

Thanks for having a look and i hope you can see why we wanted to share this with you , I’m proud of my sons that are both doing their bit, just because they can, I’m grateful to  those with ” mobility issues ) family and friends. and its amazing to see that people will still come out and give up their time to support  a great cause

Hotel Chocolate – Easter Pick Me Up

The yellow topped eggs, were  lovely, Rich  gooey liquid centres that  tasted Yummy
And as for  the strawberry chocolates, they were simply out of this world.
I cant say that it was nice to  have 1 special chocolate with a cup of coffee or tea,Or that the selection lasted very long, as it didn’t. But all of the people who had them liked them.
Full of uplifting Easter goodies and seasonal specialities to nibble and even share!
Well, I did the sharing, everyone liked them, thanks to the good people at Hotel Chocolate for sending them to me
If you want to buy them, then i would say they are worth every penny, and they can be bought for  £13.00 ( UK )
I’m just sorry I didn’t take my own pictures, but before I knew it , all that was left was wrappers & Smiling  chocolate  gorged faces

I found  have a very special treat that you may like , Not sure if its UK only  & make sure you are within the dates of the offer

Get down to Matalan this week and enjoy 20% off everything until next Sunday.

Perfect excuse to get the summer wardrobe sorted!

Simply print this voucher off to use in store or use the code online.

Great food, fair prices, & a nice surprise at the end of it

Just back from our “Mothers day ”  meal out, when  we asked Ma what she wanted for Mothers day , it was simple …”Italian ”  now as we have one of our group in a wheel chair, we need to make sure a place has good facilities, is child friendly, has decent food, and looks good.

I have to say Carluccios in Chichester fits the bill and ticks all the boxes,

One small point is that  there were 2-3 occasions where things we had asked for we had to remind the staff, but I would recommend the place to any one.

We arrived a little early so me and ” My Oldmanleslie ” had a coffee while they sorted the table ( nice gesture they didn’t charge us for it )

Al the usual things with an Italian, good selection of breads, the Anti Pasto courses where great, the main meals were lovely

11 out of 10  for the Thinly sliced char grilled rump steak, served with rocket leaves and shaved Parmesan, rosemary potatoes and tarragon mayonnaise.

All in all , well worth the Money, and most importantly  “both Mums ” enjoyed it

Oh yes, and the surprise  at the end, ” rose chocolates for the mums ”  , a nice finish to a nice meal

SK8 City London Roller Disco – What You missed out on!

Looks like a pretty cool place to spend a few hours

Family of Rollerz

Us Skaters who love skating try to get the most out of skating and with more venues offering their floors for us to Skate and enjoy the night away, we are more than happy and excited to have Byron Hall available for us, even if it IS once a month!

So as Sk8citylondon Roller Disco comes to Byron Hall for the first monthly SK8NITES event Friday JUST GONE, let us show you what you missed out on!

Here is a Quote from someone who went to the event on the 21/03/2014
Quote:
By Sebastian Sandhir

Another great night rolling with my skate family. As soon as I get on that floor, the music and people grant me so much happiness – all my problems became temporarily non-existent. It still amazes me how I’ve developed a bond with so many people, most of whom of ages FAR beyond my own (only kidding!)…

its all about the perception ….4 door family saloons are getting ” planet friendly” and a gallon is only £6.50ish

Those that know me, know what i do for  a living and it involves an occasional drive to see people …… I just spent 5 hours and £40 UK  using public transport  to get me only 100 miles round trip , This got me thinking Well for those that  don’t like the ” German sheds” that are on the road, with just a driver in them during the day , paying tax , fuel duty  and all the other taxes levied against  motorists, I’m pleased to see  that the Car i drive  tops this list  of Efficient cars for MPG in its class, and is way more comfortable than the train

and if you think back to the old days, the A6 Audi  would equate to the mid range 4 door car in the range, equivalent to the ford Cortina , or Vauxhall cavalier ( UK models ) with the A8 ( as the equivalent of the Granada / omega )

I’m just looking at a comparison based on information  from the web, but it seems that the big motor manufacturers have really improved their MPG

Small 4 door  family saloon  Honda civic gives in excess of  70MPG www.whatcar.com/car-news/honda/civic/2013-honda-civic-16-i-dtec-review/1201342 Not a lot of boot space in a honda civic though , i know from experience

4 door  Family saloon  just short of 65MPG  www.audi.co.uk/about-audi/latest-news/the_new_audi_a6_ultra.html  Huge boot, comfortable  & consumatly safe for all passengers

Environmentally focused Prius  actually gives  60MPG  www.autocar.co.uk/car-review/toyota/prius/mpg again, more for a small shop as not a huge boot and cant take 5 people comfortably

However, when you make the jump to a real planet friendly  option @ 85+MPG  you have to sacrifice 3 seats  http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-review/smart/fortwo/mpg  No space for shopping, 2 seats, and no crumple zones in an accident

And from a safety point of view, especially considering children and babies that are carried, or when a family wants to go away on hols, or actually buy something in a shop, space is paramount

I know which of the above  i would prefer to be in with my family  if it came to a crash

so using my car  would have cost about £12 for fuel and depreciation for the whole trip, i could have taken more  kit with me, i could have taken clients out. Instead i spent the day on a train & tube system that is not hygenic, Not healthy , and not good for stress levels

Rant Over ,

Subway Store – Bognor Regis NOT GOOD – ( in my opinion)

so there we were, out in town this morning , we had the  smallest ” oldmanleslie” with us . and  when we asked him what he fancied for lunch, as a bit of a treat…. there we were a few minutes later  we were in subway.  Subway - Eat FreshObviously , in her hand bag that has the contents of the world in its corners Mrs oldmanleslie  had a voucher so  this made it a little  easier.

Thanks to the guy that  gave me another voucher as we were going in , didn’t get his name, didn’t know him  but a random act of kindness, so thanks.

it turns out  that a voucher that you think says buy one  drink  and a sub, and get a free sub , has so many conditions on it, and so many restrictions on how it can be used, that it really isn’t worth the hassle. But we paid the bill any way.

We asked for a glass of tap  water for my son , apparently  Subway now charge ( not for the water, For the cup  £1.19 UK ) which is coincidentally what they charge for a cold drink.

But it took a very rude ( in my opinion ) member of staff to tell me this.

The part that  most surprised me though , was when i went back to actually pay for a bottle of water, i joined the queue. i was told to go straight to the front  to the till, I’m thinking this would have annoyed  all the others in the queue so i declined and waited.

I got the bottled drink from the  fridge as instructed and my change was brought over to me ( NO RECEIPT ) so i don’t know if the  transaction went through the till

and of course after all this my subs were cold ( i had  hot steak and cheese ) but no one seemed  too worried

so all in all , Poor service, misleading Marketing and un helpful staff

Shame really as i used to like the occasional Subway. and  in other stores the service has been good , this relates only to this store

My advice  if  you are in Bognor  for the day , shopping , staying at butlins , or just down for the day  and fancy a sandwich , Avoid this Subway . Head about 150 Yards up the road to

a place that i have used for many years

Possibly the nicest coffee i have ever had …..

So I like a sneaky latte, there’s no issue with that , I and I will continue to hunt down the best  one on my travels. I MAY have stumbled across the perfect recipe  though so I thought I would share…..

A Big old Mug ( with a nice big circumference  that takes to hands to hold ) for that warm  fuzzy feeling…. A big old slug of  ” THE MAGICAL INGREDIENT  FOR ANY COFFEE “ In this case lemon Meringue   syrup. And yes, im sorry i didn’t measure exactly ,

A good old fashioned Tassimo  coffee pod, run twice through the machine  just to getCARTE NOIRE Expresso  the extra strength  for the Mix , With a large Latte  portion , again run twice  through  the machine

I don’t know  if it was just the ingredients, or the Delicate way  I stirred it (  who am I kidding )  but  it was lovely, and  for a large coffee with syrup, I worked out it only cost about 60p

Tassimo & Monin are 2 names that definitely go well together and I will be telling them so

Binky’s Cake House …… what a great find, and even nicer cakes

So there i was earlier in the year looking for a Unique  thing to get ” Mrs oldmanleslie” for her Birthday.  we have been together a little while now  so  sometimes its hard to come up with a special idea. This year , it was easy, I was told about “Binky’s Cake House “ by a friend of Mine .

I was told they made special Birthday cakes and cakes for special occasions. so i had a chat with ” binky “( not her real name ), told the lady  what i wanted and pretty much left her to it . The result was a truly scrumptious cake that tasted gorgeous, made to my wife’s choice , and that looked even better, The picture doesn’t do it Justice, it was ” proper 3D ”

Now I know there are a lot of mums out there that make cakes for people , and im not saying  anything about their standards, all i can say is that the cake i paid for from Binkys was excellent value and for sheer delight for the look on my wife’s face it was worth every penny

Binkys are also a bit special as they can accommodate  Most dietary requirements, They Are a start-up business and they are so keen to do a good job. for you

They have a www presence, and aren’t Just on Face Book and you can see some of their handy work here  This is NOT a sponsored  blog, i paid for the Cake and am so glad i found them, If its something that little bit special you need , Binkys is the way

Freebies are always good ….

So this one has to be a bit special….and it really is

To those that follow my blog, thank you . you will know i haven’t been doing this for very long. You may also appreciate that im not the best at blogging yet. but i am at a significant milestone for “oldmanlesliesblog” so i thought I would use this as an opportunity for something that brings all the areas i mention  together .

I drum,I skate , I let you know if something is good, i support UK manufacturing ‘cos i work for one   , and i love gadgets. So when i went skating  last week  and i saw all the people who were using Lights on their Skates I was impressed.

My first thought  was ” wow that would look great  on my drum ( and yes, i know that’s really sad, but i cant skate as well as the boys & girls that were wearing the lights )

It was weird  because lots of people had them, some  were  quite bright, and were static colours, Some were changing colours automatically  and seemed to me to be a lot brighter…. I did  some digging around and confirmed that in fact these were made by one of the guys at our skate club. so having seen them in action.  I thought I would get me a pair for my drum . I guess these lights can be used just about any where and that is testament to a good product in that it has more than 1 use . There is a www site  for these  which is http://www.skatelight.co.uk/  where you can find out more.

I know its unusual to blog about a product before you receive it  but having seen these working, i am so looking forward to receiving mine ( which i have paid for , this  is not a sponsored blog )

It simply unites all the key areas of my blog  and i hope you like it

its local to west Sussex with global potential  , built and designed by a Uk Manufacturer ,  a great gadget , Quality product,  & therefore , it’s all about sharing, when something is this good

and if there are other Skate parts you need

Something Good, Sustainable and low-cost

What a refreshingly good Story to see.

Simon Dale is a family man in Wales,

His interest in self-sustainability and an ecological awareness led him to dig out and build his own home—one of the loveliest, warmest, most inviting dwellings you could ever imagine. And it cost him only £3,000, about $4,700 American dollars!

Can you imagine a more charming entrance than this?Man Builds Fairy Tale Home for His Family – Total Cost £3,000 - Hobbit Home

Simon gives two reasons for building the home. The first elegant one, from his website, is: “It’s fun. Living your own life, in your own way is rewarding. Following our dreams keeps our souls alive.” His second reason is a plea for sustainability, in which he states that “our supplies are dwindling and our planet is in ecological catastrophe”. You can read the full and passionate statement here. Simon is also a photographer, and as you can see throughout this article, a talented one. A beautiful view in another home that Simon is helping build for someone else. (Originally, this was mistakenly identified as a photo of the home he and his family are living in.) The tools are fairly simple.Man Builds Fairy Tale Home for His Family – Total Cost £3,000 - Hobbit Home Interior The main concession to modernity was a chainsaw, which he used to cut down about 30 small trees. No old growth forest fell to his family’s needs. He focused on tools that used his own energy, like shovel, chisel, and hammer. Yet it took him only four months to produce this lovely home. The home is constructed from wood, stone, straw, and has a sod roof. It’s heated with a wood fireplace and has a solar panel for power. Most materials were scavenged and refurbished appliances. The effect, though, isn’t of a run-down get-by-with-second-best . It’s creative, artistic, elegant, and cozy. It is, in fact, magical. Most amazingly, the home didn’t require years of training or experience. Simon had none. He’s not an architect. He’s not an engineer. He’s not a carpenter. He started from scratch in every sense. He told the Daily Mail: “Being your own have-a-go architect is a lot of fun and allows you to create and enjoy something which is part of yourself and the land rather than, at worst, a mass-produced box designed for maximum profit and the convenience of the construction industry.” Building from natural materials does away with producers’ profits and the cocktail of carcinogenic poisons that fill most modern buildings. He was fortunate in obtaining the land for his home. The plot, a bit of a large piece, was given to him in exchange for its caretaking. Simon Dale, his wife Jasmine Saville, and their two children in front of their completed home just 4 months after starting it! This and all photos on this page are by Simon Dale (http://simondale.net). The attention to making the home eco-friendly extends to a compost toilet, the use of straw over a plastic layer for insulation, and a refrigerator that’s cooled with air that flows from under the home’s foundation. Cement is a high carbon emitter, so the interior walls are finished with lime plaster instead of cement plaster. Simon is now involved in building another home for the Lammas Project, an organization dedicated to low-impact building. Focus is not only on the homes themselves, but also on planting trees and gardens, and on low impact living in general. Here’s how he sums up his view on his home and the Lammas Project: This building is one part of a low-impact or permaculture approach to life. This sort of life is about living in harmony with both the natural world and ourselves, doing things simply and using appropriate levels of technology. These sort of low-cost, natural buildings have a place not only in their own sustainability, but also in their potential to provide affordable housing which allows people access to land and the opportunity to lead more simple, sustainable lives. I cannot imagine a home more lovely, appealing, and livable than this one. This could be and should be the wave of the future in home building. For more information about Simon Dale’s home, plans, and more photos, please go to his website, A Low Impact Woodland Home. Pagham Beach Update

It seems as if the weather is not  easing .

An update on my earlier blog

Pagham beach closed after sea defences were breached

A beach has been cordoned off after strong tides breached recently completed sea defences.

Solent Coastguard said flood defences at Pagham beach had been breached and part of the shingle bank washed away.

People have been urged to keep away from the area which is very dangerous, a spokesman said.

Arun council was responsible for the sea defence which was completed in December

Large areas of the shingle bank and large boulders, which all formed part of the flood defence scheme, have been washed away over the past week in the poor weather.

For Local peeps ( west Sussex ) , but hopefully it wont last too long

For any one local to west Sussex , it looks like its going to get worse  before it clears

as below from the BBC website   5 January 2014 Last updated at 11:44

A beach in West Sussex has been cordoned off after strong tides breached sea defences.

Solent Coastguard said flood defences at Pagham Beach, near Chichester, had been breached and part of the shingle bank washed away.

People have been urged to keep away from the area which is very dangerous, a spokesman said.

Coastguards, police, the Environment Agency and Arun council were at the scene overnight.

Road closed

“The safety message from all the agencies is that this is a hazardous area and there is no reason for members of the public to be down there,” a coastguard spokesman said.

BBC reporter Simon Jenkins said large areas of the shingle bank and large boulders, which all formed part of a recently completed flood defence scheme, had been washed away over the past week.

Travel reports said Harbour Road, near Lagoon Road, had been closed because of coastal flooding.

Other parts of the Sussex coastline have seen cliffs collapse during storms and tidal surges.

A 9ft (3m) stretch of cliff at Birling Gap went into the sea on Saturday, and part of a cliff collapsed into the waves at Rock-a-Nore, near Hastings, on Friday.

The Environment Agency has warned the south coast remains at risk of coastal flooding throughout the weekend and early into next week.

Valentines Day Update , Its getting  silly down  in this part of the world, it seems a s though this little part of Sussex has been forgotten as it’s not  ” on Thames ”

That is not to detract from the horrible things people in the ” Surrey / Middlesex ” area are experiencing, or the  ongoing horrible  things in the west country ,
