A bit of a new style for me but I’m gonna give this a go and see if I get any responses it’s a simple question and I’m just curious if you can answer below in the comments
what is your favourite thing about you
I don’t need to know what other people think of you and I don’t even need to know what you think of each other it would just be nice to have somewhere positive where people can say for example that they are friendly, they are honest they are whatever positive value they think they are….
I’m going to put this across all the categories and all the tags of my blog, the good ones and the bad ones and I’m curious to see what comes back.
Where to start these blogs, is often the problem. I could ” star wars reference ” and use the “along time ago………….. ” but it wasn’t that long ago.however, the experience really was this year out of this world.
So who wants a blog about another fire works display, and boring pictures.
Well, this one is a little bit special, I cant say its free to attend, as it’s not. But it gathers international media coverage each year as the organisers continue a tradition of burning Effagees for the crowd, always Guy Fawkes. Each year they also add a selected media person. This year it was Harvey Weinstein.
The organisers that plan this amazing firework display is the Edenbridge Bonfire society. The Fireworks get so much focus, the effigy always does. What people don’t always report is the hard work of the committee and organisers that also put together a torch-lit parade through the town before the fireworks to involve the community, the schools, the nurseries and the children & families. It was the 3rd in 4 years that I had been here, as a helper, a performer and this time as a marshal so I got to actually see the amazing procession
If you are anywhere able to get to this event for future years, Or feel like helping out. contact the organisers Its got to be one of the best Fireworks displays that “oldmanleslie ” has ever seen “
Its been such a long time since my last blog, hope I can remember how to Blog. So i sign in to my blog, and i see that word press has changed, it looks a lot easier,
Maybe I can get back to blogging, I guess only time will tell, any how, things are good in the oldmanleslie house, I still haven’t found better coffee any where than here
I have tried to cut down on the junk food, so no more bad service from KFC or subway I guess that’s one way to ensure you don’t get bad service , to stop using something
Still Proud of my family and the way they make me smile ,Still working for the same company and still drumming with www.celebrationsamba.co.uk/ and looking forward to a Busy summer……
Oh by the way , did i mention that This Sunday coming, Worthings Samba Band are playing and leading a procession into the Amex Stadium In Brighton. to and audience of 10000+ people. All out to support something in support of a new bishop. you can find details from #festival50 on the usual channels .
So why do i choose to blog this . Simply for the reason that if you see something that you think looks good, try it , do it because you enjoy it , and do it to the best of your ability …. I had no idea that when i heard a little samba band at my local carnival 2 + years ago that i would one day be playing with them to 10000+ people , least of all looking forward to it
Not to sure if I should use the text above for this as it’s really a review of what has been a great year for me ( band wise ) and there are still events to come this year . I have the pleasure of performing with Celebration Samba, a band based in West Sussex . The band has been around for a while, in fact next year will be our 14th year and it seems to get better every year . So I wanted to tell some key people about it , and a blog seemed to be the best idea.
We play most weekends between palm Sunday & Christmas, we are sometimes at more than one event in a day ( what it is to be popular ) and generally all the drummers have a great time. sometimes its a cultural event, sometimes its a carnival , a party , a summer fair , a Christmas celebration, we turn up and drum.
Its my involvement with the band that has taken me to so many places, dressed me up in fancy dress, made me smile, and really enjoy something that other people seem to enjoy me doing . So why blog about it, well, the band has shown me that it’s not just the ” big & shiny ” events that are fun,
And in a couple of weeks we get to support the ladies that are behind the sea of lights . this is a community event that has become a regular event, great for kids , families and those who like a traditional ” feel good ” day .They even have the #adursol2016
Then we have the Christmas celebrations in Littlehampton to ” bring in to the town “.
We Provided the music and lessons for around 400 Guides as part of the Olympics this year
But don’t think that it’s just small gigs, this year has also seen oldmanleslie, don his pirate wig, use his best AAAAARRRRRRRand attend Hastings Pirate day 2016.
We also lead out the Worthing carnival Again in the summer , what an excellent day that was
So I guess the main point of the blog, is that if like me you are at a carnival procession ( big or small)and you see something that looks like fun, it’s always good to ask, because speaking from experience, if I hadn’t asked, I wouldn’t have found out about celebration samba, and I couldn’t have told you about all the wonderful free to attend events going on in this part of the world
If you fancy Joining the band, have a look at their www and see if you can get along to rehearsals , full details and a Little history are here and if you think it’s just ” 40 somethings like oldmanleslie “. no we have all ages in the band. Mums, dads, grannies, granddads, father & sons, Generally people just having a good time entertaining people
As my involvement with the band has cost me to buy kit and rehearse, it has also shown me that there are so many carnivals and free events that are typically English around the country, its still a good ( and noisy if you are drumming ) place to be
Saturday July 12th 2014 from 10 – 6 in the Town Centre (High Street, Littlehampton) with lots of stalls, Free entertainment, DJ etc. Hampton the Hedgehog plus the Spectacular 40th Anniversaryevening procession.
So all the good plans to blog a few things that have happened over the last few days, and things that the oldmanleslie clan are looking forward to ….go right out of the window when I realise, I love the tunes, and whilst they don’t sound as good, And I have it on vinyl some where …..you tube is great for memories and instant access
as reported on www.bbc.co.uk/news I think this is a wrong choice by the BBC, Charts should be based on sales, where s the fun in clinically clicking a button for your music, maybe I’m too ” old ” Oldmanleslie.
it was fun buying vinyl, it felt good. it still sounds better and it looks good ( only my opinion)
but here’s the rational argument. For example, one of my old faves. I have this behind me on a cd, and somewhere on an old vinyl. bought in shops, so I assume I have paid my fees to the artist. And therefore I can listen to it on some service for free.
but if all I pay is to stream the track and listen when I want, I don’t own a copy out right. so if this is the thin end of the wedge, will there one day only be streamed music available ..
Always sends a little shiver across my spine this one, not sure why …..either that or i want to be driving very fast in a very straight line in my Motor……….enjoy
“Michael Heilemann, an interface director at Squarespace, has undertaken a vast project to document the inspirations that fed into the original Star Wars film. The analysis, according to Heilemann, covers “everything from [George] Lucas’ earliest student films, European cinema of the time, westerns (American and Italian), samurai films, war films, comic books, artists, composers, and so on and so forth, up to and including the release of the film that changed the world.” Heilemann’s e-book, Kitbashed, is a work in progress—although it’s quite far along—but he recently released an annotated cut of Star Wars that draws from his extensive research. The video includes the whole film intercut with relevant scenes from film and TV that inspired Lucas’ work.
Those that know me , kind of know that I’m not a footy fan, I’m not sure why, I guess i never really got into it … However, when the world cup comes around each time, Like all the people in England, i just hope that maybe some how, with a fair wind and a bit of luck we might win it. Just think how positive that would make everyone for the summer…..
So this year, as it in Brazil, The band I play in have been asked to “welcome the start of the world cup” at one of the best Grill/ Pubs in the area.
a chance for a bit of escapism and fun, everyone in the UK knows that whilst the result isn’t fixed, there are certain ” givens ” in the voting that mean we probably wont be hosting next year here.. still, good luck to our entrant ” Molly “ I guess it’s all in good spirit, and at least it does throw up the occasional classic tune that gets well and truly in your head , and stays there .
So following on from my Horrible day yesterday £40.00 to travel 100 miles on public transport in horrible cramped conditions, I was out there again today in the big wide world, ironically about the same mileage, but under my own steam. I actually got 48 MPG from the car and that was mostly Town driving , so in direct cost £13.00 of fuel covered it . and I could talk to people ( hands free of course , as it came as standard ) without the fear of someone in the carriage listening to me so the Difference was I enjoyed every single mile , which put me in a better frame of mind for each meeting….. this must be what they term ” advancement through technology “
My car, My radio , and one of my favourites of ALL time played. enjoyed it so much, had to come home, you tube it and find 9.00 minutes plus of sheer indulgence
all in all , I had a great day so if there is ” karma” I Hope you have had a great day too

I admire those that can, it’s just something i never got around to learning. I don’t know if this guy is good, or bad on a technical level, But what Seminal tunes he mixes…… from the old skool we would say ” No fillers ” The mix isn’t mine, all credit to the DJ though ,
at the time , one of my favourite tracks on the first album that my girlfriend at the time ( Now “mrs Oldmanleslie” for a long time bought me ) ….. It was played to almost breaking in the car at the time , and i think finally the cassette player managed to chew it up , I couldn’t even repair it with a Bic Biro.
It just made me realise, i have a vinyl collection 7,12 inch and albums that sound great , a stack of CD’s and still a few tapes that i can no longer play , Various hard drives of MP3 tracks , and little Micro SD cards in the car ….
And of course like the link at the top , i can tap into non existent music that is streamed….. But i never had any 8 tracks
Just think, if everyone that saw this, told everyone they knew , and re blogged it to everyone they knew, and they all donated even a £1.00 How many Million users are there on this site…
PLEASE RE BLOG it . you can even donate via paypal

POLICE are urging women to be vigilant after a 33-year-old was grabbed from behind by a man in Felpham.
The victim was walking through Longbrook Park when she was approached by a man from behind between 4pm and 4.45pm on September 24.
The man indecently assaulted the woman but fled after the woman hit him with her handbag.
Officers are considering the possibility that the incident could be linked to an incident in Flansham Lane on September 18 when a man grabbed a woman but then ran off.
Detective sergeant Sally Arbuckle said: “We are considering the possibility that the same man is responsible for both incidents.
“Neither victim has been seriously hurt but both are understandably upset at what happened to them.
“I am keen to speak to anyone who was in Longbrook Park at the time on September 24 and could have seen what happened.
“I would urge women walking in the area to stay vigilant.
“There is nothing to suggest that this man poses a physical threat to anyone but it is still important that women stay alert and contact us if they are concerned about the behaviour of any men they see acting suspiciously.”
Anyone with information should call 101 quoting serial 543 of September 25 or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
